When someone asks you for anything DX you strictly say "NO I CAN'T I'VE QUIT IT ALL". But when someone is willing to release it themselves, you jump back in and say no.

When most of the code is mine, I say no. Dae may release the models Derek made, and the code made by other scripters. But not mine.

Greedy son of a bitch. I released the whole of MMCity, yet you won't even release your shitty mod. Furthermore, you even tried to stop me releasing mine. What a complete freak. Are you so desperate to keep your code because you know that you won't be able to code anything else again without Nobody to help you?

I was wondering how soon this thread would just turn into typical DXMP drama

6 pages, I gave it 5. Looks like I lost.

It is a sad day in Deus Ex when a man is criticized and insulted for not releasing his code.

It's his decision, not yours. So stop being maggot pies.

I agree with this because it is his choice to release his creation. Even if you used a SDK to make maps and mods or if you made it from scratch in friggin Notepad, it's still your creation and the copyrights still belong to the original owner.

Whatever the SDK license says, the authors of mods and maps are the original authors, because there is a Berne Convention where it says that:
The protection of the moral rights of an author is based on the view that a creative work is in some way an expression of the author's personality: the moral rights are therefore personal to the author, and cannot be transferred to another person except by testament when the author dies

Yeah, Eidos

Deus Ex still belongs to Eidos as well, but I find this pathetically stupid because I've always hated how a game's copyrights belong to the publisher. The publisher did not make the game, they made crap dead-lines, advertising schemes and (obviously) published the game, but unless they have their own developers in their company they did not develop the game.

As far as I know, Eidos did not have their own developers to help out Ion Storm. Ion Storm used their own developers therefore, it is in my opinion, that the copyright should be owned to all the developers as a whole. Not to Eidos.

I guess how it goes however, is that if you want a publisher to publish your game, you have to immediately surrender your rights to the game, to them.

There is a difference between the creation being releaed and the creation's source being released.

Would you expect video game developers to release their souce for all their games, even though they want you to see the game? No, of course not, it works the same way for this.

The difference here is money..

e.g.

Alex gets none, he just likes to be selfish

They get money

You understand that concept?

^ What he said. The fact is, Alex will not release the source code for the parts he developed. And if anyone has a problem with that you can take it up with him and he'll still say no.

Ask Nobody, he made the tool.

DxPlayer wrote:How did u get start with modding and scripting?

I started as a mapper, because it was easier compared to scripting. I tried it for the sake of trying something new, but it entirely allured me. I used to spend many hours making maps just for myself. I still think mapping is the best way to express yourself, your mood, emotions.

Later I came to a conclusion that the majority of multiplayer user-made maps are monotonous & boring, so I decided to make some maps which I could later release.

With coding - I felt urge to change something in game, and decided to do that at whatever cost. So I spent several days pursuing one single objective, facing and solving problems, and finally completed it.

Whatever you learn, I'd recommend to unveil your imagination and free your "inside child" : ask yourself, "How does that work?" and make assumptions. Then see how it was made by others. I personally studied scripting by trying to find similar solutions in source codes of Jim Bowen's mod, DarkForce1 and some other. Besides, there's an excellent Unreal engine modding resource wiki.beyondunreal.com.

I don't know how I started, I guess I just had the urge to create things.

I began with maps, I got help with my first map, Aussiefella helped me with that.

How I learned it... Just as Eugene, I 'read' source codes and I learned by trial & error.

doubt it. The current state of community is far from what it was in 2006, for example

DxPlayer wrote:Is your real name Eugene?

no, my name is Evgeny or Zhenya (Zhenya is short for Evgeny, like Mike is short for Michael)

the closest equivalent in English is Eugene
