Deus Ex Alpha

Hey all.

I have just purchased 3 months worth of hosting for an 8 slot DX server. It's a bit on the small side, but I think a slightly smaller match can sometimes
be much more rewarding than a 10-a-side-GEP-grabbing frenzy...

I'm aware of the number of 0-aug servers gathering dust in the serverlist, and before anyone tells me I'm wasting my money - I know that.

Call it ambitious/deluded/naive, but I'm pretty sure that with the right setup, and some sort of purpose, this server could prove to be popular. I have setup a forum: http://online.exofire.net/forum/index.html for map/mod requests, requests to borrow the server, and a lot more.

I'll be taking donations, too. I'm not expecting anyone to donate, but maybe you could consider throwing a few quid my way if you wanna borrow the server for extended periods?

An idea I had was "highest bidder gets the server for a day", where every now and then I open up an auction on the server site, and people could bid to have the server for a day or two, and runs it how they wanna. Probably stupid, but if it built interest in the server... Btw we're talking single figures here not a lot of money, mmkay?

I don't have much knowledge of DX maps. I have made two pretty terrible maps (naturally I'll be hosting them lol) but I really need some good map ideas.

EDIT: Forum not up yet. Goes live latewr today. Server goes live on Monday.

Get DXMS, and Zan-Goh, and get a mapvote.

Okay. Done! I have most DXMS maps on my PC, as soon as the server goes live I'll upload them.

Zan-Goh is a must have, already thought of that.

Mapvote - y'know, I totally forgot about MapVote! I'm not a huge fan of it, coz I remember playing Iceworld 7 times in a row once on the old DXMS server...

IceWorld is a great map, also Freedom, I think you should concentrate more on geting a site, rather then hosting.

I made that mistake once before - spent literaly tens of hours on a comprehensive site/forum/portal, only to get about 6 visitors a week and totally out of practice as far as playing is concerned.

And you only want the site coz you want my wonderful tech support forum back :p

Don't worry, we'll get a site soon. We have a server site already: http://online.exofire.net/forum/ that will have info on the server and will take requests to borrow it/add maps etc.

We're gonna be linking the FTF clan site to the server site, and hopefully to a dedicated DXMP support site, run by myself and anyone willing to help. Thing is, [A] forums are the hub of DXMP communications, and no matter how hard anyone tries, they ain't gonna steal the limelight, so I dunno... maybe I won't have a support site. The [A] main site and forums together with tack's dx lab, wolf's mapping tutorials, planetdeusex.com, deusexgaming.com... well they cover everything you coud ever need pretty much.

Apart from a computer which takes the frobber to the FTF website. Still can't get it to work. I even tried to do it with a bot not a computer.. don't work.

Good job in getting the server, yeah iceworld is an okay map.. but well done.

Want to see some of the new dxms maps. They were quite good.

I think you should just get a map with a massive open grass plain, and its really small, so you can kill em with a lam/

It's a shame - this server was supposed to be up Yesterday, but PayPal eCheques take 9 days to clear. Won't be up till stupid boxing day =(

I will add MapVote, as the server will have a large selection of maps (hopefully).

Not sure what Announcer mod is? Is it the Messager mod?

Mixed reactiosn really. Been fairly busy.... tend to get the overspill when RTK is full, but that's fine by me!

Just encase you don't get my email Freedom, either you or one of your members banned me from your server. I don't play Deus Ex Multiplayer much, but it's fun once in a while. Anyways, I want to know if being good in DXMP is a banning offense on your server?

Yes it's the same Dastardly.

As for GODZ forums, it was ruined by NoChanc's little trouble maker Hitman.

They both are full of themselves in so many ways. It's not worth visiting their.
