Just watched the DXMP Clip 2006 all over again, and I rialised I love augs. I'm bored shitless of Smuggler over and OVER again with the same repetitve gameplay. Rifles. It gets boring. Seriously. Now I see what drove Deja to go crazy. The only augged server with people seems to be EL server, in USA, with nasty pings and stuff. And DXAG, though fun, isn't ... ATDM or like other augged gameplay.

We need a decent Euro/UK augged server, and people need to play it. I'm getting desperate.

Hmm, well I am getting a server next week, and I am going to test which sort of server is most popular.

I dislike ATDM and the community it seems to have collected lol. DXAG is augs and I enjoy that.

It ain't great, coz it's only an 8 man server, but if it's ATDM you guys want, it's ATDM I will host. I wanna learn to play with augs - maybe some guys can give me a few pointers?

Cool. We really need and ATDM euro server. I'm sure european players are getting tired of playng on [EL] servers against the host with his ping of 20 and other good low pinging players

If you wanna learn augs you are gonna have to spend alot of time learning cuz most players are pro and know how to streak easily. Because I'm so damn nice, my msn is on my profile

I'm thinking of alternation ATDM/0-aug on LP. Maybe every 24 hours. Problems is I have no idea if this is possible (I know [A] have done it, but I don't think their servers are remote hosted).

Could someone give me the command line/.ini settings for a standard ATDM, please? Coz I can't start the game and choose ATDM, coz it's remote hosted.

Hmmm, I am hosting a server, and for some periods of times, I will host an ATDM. It's a 12 slot server, so I can't see any problems there.

Would anybody play on an 8 man ATDM server then, or not? I notice augged matches tend to be larger than 0-aug.

Leasing, if I hosted myself the ping would be nasty. But if I had my other computer, I can't really see it being bad.

Altho it'd still be on 1 internet connection.

One good one. I get one of the best pings in european servers.

I'm on 8meg down, 446kbps up, but my phone line/distance from exchange is limiting it to 5, but I actually get bout 2.5. Lol... I get 446 up tho.

It depends what area you live in. Around here it's BT, but I have just gotten talktalk, and my pings are exactily the same, no change at all

I have had TalkTalk for ages, but recently been transferred over to their own hardware. It's sucked ever since.

Router is constantly losing the connection, thought "oh its the router" so I used a hardware NIC, and still lost the connection.

TalkTalk suck total balls.

FUN?

DXMP is the only shooter I've played online so long. It is also the first shooter I've played online. I am saying this because, when I will say: DXMP 0augs is slow beyond all reason, it wont be coming from UT or Quake veteran used to fast-paced games. Is slow FUN? Not really.. it will seem like a total waste of time.

Can 0augs be FUN?

In open area maps (which most of the classic maps are, while DXMS_Iceworld being excellent example of a such custom map) with sufficient amount of players (4 vs 4 smuggler, at least, 5 vs 5 cmd at least, etc) it is.
But you have to be good, or considerably better than the enemy. It is possible to kill people in 0augs several times faster than in augs, while being in grave danger yourself (no streak edge, regen). Now imagine sniping one person, rifling 2 players, sniping fourth and going after the approaching 5th. And all that in a matter of few seconds. Fights are often so fast for the good players, that they hardly think what they are doing. Just kill and kill some more, while constantly managing your medkit supply, constantly selecting best positions, and having no real time to do this!
(as you notice I am mostly describing one play style here: AR tanking with sniper support. BIA camp-all-map strategy is not fun in my eyes).

I dont know what crappy servers you have been playing in. BIA ChinDemocracy used to host his 3 weapon server, but standard 0augs utilize Bow,CK,Gas,DTS,Pistol,1,2 rifles,1, 2 shotguns, shuriken, flamethrower. That is 10 weapons plus confusing EMP and GAS. I hope I didnt leave anything out.
Crossbow, SawnOff, AutoShotty, Pistol, Shuriken all can be used effectively for alternative playstyles when the enemy team fails to entertain you. Flamethrower can also be excellent weapon, but you wont be chasing riflers on open areas with it. CK is for rare occasions or for hardcore camper/trapper, and DTS is really not a proper weapon for a proper stand-off. DTS can reek havoc and kill whole enemy team in a matter of seconds, but in all honesty, its a melee weapon in ranged game.


I play only 0augs these days, and very rarely augs. I do this because of my fps alone, for no other reason. So I know how 0augs get boring, and when they get boring.

0augs are interesting when you have a skilled enemy, that can potentially best you, but you dont know for sure. It is also interesting for few maps if you can slaughter the whole enemy team in few seconds again and again. While is a bit much said, I wish it was true every fight

Not only ATDM can be fun. DXAG has the potential of being fun, while right now while interesting I would say it isnt quite as fun as your standard 0augs yet. Thats from my very personal point of view, of course : )

ATDM in general has been dominated by faggotry for quite a while now. It doesnt mean it ruins all the fun every game, but people such as spaz should be shot, or simply banned from public servers. Ill throw names like Sike and Soviet in just so Spaz wont feel lonely in there.
And that already is one reason you dont get a lot of new players to play there. On one side you have this cloak-targetting gep-duo that spams gay shit constantly, throughout the map, - and farms a streak- and on the other side you have equal gameplay in 0aug servers.

What regards servers: no players no servers.

But I do love augs though : )

edit: if you get better in 0augs you start to notice, and enjoy certain stand-offs, combat situations. It feels completely different to fight AR sitting tank or AR offensive tank, especially if you use pistol for that. Sniper situations and styles can be very interesting sometimes.

oh i dunno.... I paid £48 for 3 months of serverness, and I fkn hate augs, but I'll host 'em for a bit.

Ive also written long posts defending ATDM or augs some times ago, but I just went by 0augs this one, as the question was whether or not its fun.

Id also want to note that as long as you clearly dont dominate the server, it really should not be that boring. But imagine easily killing everyone day in day after, now where is the fun in that?'

Actually, Id have so much to say that I dont remember everything right now, but I have plans of suggesting some kind of training school under REN wing. Something chaos Im sure happily would agree with. But thats just an idea for now..


And if you say you fkn hate augs, then it clearly shows that you dont really know what you are talking about. itll either come to you as you play them, or as you dont, it wont.

I also have to add that I talk from competitive point of view. I dont want to explore mazes, solve puzzles, or rent an appartment in online shooter. I want to shoot players, experience different dangerous situations in fights, and have a good laugh in all that. People who say shooter-players should sign to army or experience real combat situations have not the faintest idea what they are talking about in that comparison. In real situation you are going to fucking die. Besides, war is MMO already, and MMORPG at that.

Me too, me too. I didn't mean "I fkn hate augs" in the usual "all aug playerz r liek ghey" kinda way, I just mean I really dislike using them myself.

...mainly because I suck using augs, even more than I suck without using augs (one-track mind - augs give me too many things to think about simultaneously!).

Augs do indeed make singleplayer more fun, and for those willing to master them, makes MP more fun, and - as I think you were trying to say - makes it fairer for those who don't have lightning fast wrists to get some kills in.

Anyhoo - I'm off to play a round of augs lol... wish me luck (gonna seriously need it)

I didnt use augs because they were fun, I used them because it was a technological and innovative advance over the enemy. Besides, the enemy "had" them too.

MP.. well yeah.. more things.. but not really that many more. You can suck up some sniper shots and 3 guys chasing you, sometimes. You just need to place the vital aug keys correctly.. *sigh*

I agree fully with the (current) community part, partly with the killing it off part, but Im not sure about the 'not giving a chance' part.
One thing is when youre constantly insulted in some sub-english "language", completely another thing is killing newbs. Unless its assigned Beginner server, they will get killed and there is nothing bad, out of the ordinary, etc about it. Its just how its done regardless of game.

You have to balance power consumption, timing, obviously you have to know the enemy somewhat, Deus Ex ATDM is one of the most intensive FPS's out there.

And all you fucking need is getting comfortable with the fucking keys. In 0augs i time, i know my enemy if hes worth knowing, and it can be damn intensive. If you dont follow the thought, dont cockblock

If you got a good aim and aren't amazing at biomanagement and stuff, you'll still get pretty far. There's so many styles to go and use, and most have a different thing which they mainly rely on.

I am learning augs, and I am actually finding it a bit fun, it's just EDH's server is sooooo lagggy at times. I think I will be making my server as augged at times so I can train them

At first, I thought augs was the hardest thing ever, but the only weapon I used was a DSword and had to hit F3, F6 and F9 all the bloody time... That was the most annoying thing about it.

Considering you play 0-Augs, I don't think you have too much to say at the matter.

Mega lol. I was playing with -Majin- last night (0-aug) and he kept putting his rifle away and bringing it back out.... says it reloads faster.... never knew that.

Anyhoo - I'm gonnal learn augs, and so -Licentia Pugno- will be a UK ATDM server (for at least the nest week) for anyone who wants it. I just wish some people would give me some advice, e.g. User's Aug binds. Although I didn't understand the layout example, I get the idea.

No it doesn't (Rifle) If you shoot and re equip it it still seems to reload, probs because it's a one shot then reload weapon - He probs uses some cheap bind of sorts.

I could help with binds, although keep in mind that what other auggers use isn't automatically the best thing for you.

I could also try helping people in general with augs, although I have no idea how. (Way I learned it was simply getting owned all the time and using different tactics to just get a few kills. In the end it payed off.) But I don't expect all of you to have the patience for that.

I don't mind trying to help people anyways, so once there's a good euro server up, feel free to contact me by pm or msn.

To Kaiden and Freedom: Chances are it was a server without MTL. Before MTL, one could just re-equip sniper and snipe again, which kinda made the sniper overpowered, hence MTL doesn't allow the sniper to reload by those means anymore.
