Let's share game servers that did not leave us indifferent.

Please post one server at a time and please include some basic information that you can still remember: servers gametype, country, years active etc. Personal memories are welcome.

Gametype: BTDM with increased game speed

One of my first servers. It was very popular at the time. Although it was an American server, it provided decent ping for the Europeans.

The gameplay was very dynamic and fun, everyone was running like mad with throwing knives and swords. As far as I remember it ran only DXMP_Smuggler.

The most notable opponents were {Outlaws}, the clan which later rebranded to [EL].

It was possible to see your stats on its website. I think the traditions of publishing stats and as well playing DXMP with increased game speed were gone with it.

The Jim Bowen server. Ofcourse this was a very popular server, and well known, people loved the teleporter gun, and the Vortex grenades etc. The server started as long as I remember.

This is one of the best severs to have been on dx in my opinion. Despite having fun modifications like the teleporter gun, people didn't play about, and actually fought.

Killing with the teleporter gun was a good acheivment I can't speak to much about the server though, as when I started playing there I was quiet young, and I've forgoten :S

Oh and I remember Chococat playing with pink in her name and writing, and me being man that it wouldn't let me

I believe Jim kept his server up a lot longer than that though.. I remember playing in it post 2003 and onward. Eventually someone else was hosting GODZ, then..... nochance..

There were two JimBowen servers.

The first was [GODZ]JimBowen's server.
It contained tnag based weapons with big explosions and GODZ bots.

The second generation was past GODZ days where he provided weapons that were really usable for a match. For instance the Bowen disc launcher or the RPG or the vortex grenade.
At that time the mod was still protected from being hosted by other servers lol.

The second generation was past GODZ days where he provided weapons that were really usable for a match. For instance the Bowen disc launcher or the RPG or the vortex grenade.
At that time the mod was still protected from being hosted by other servers lol.

Someone should host the mod once again. It was always a popular server, with unique gameplay.

I have all sources and binaries yet. If FGS altfire gets its own server again, I could use mine to host it.
I'm not sure if I have the spawn lists for the weapons though. Those needed to be re-done.

I also remember been banned from someone's cheatserver for kickbanning the admin (I was something like 9)

I think the second generation was also branded GODZ for a long period of time. I clearly remember Chococat playing with the [GODZ] tag on it.

The server reached the peak of popularity when NoChanc was inactive, and then I believe he appeared out of thin air and caused the drama that resulted in Jim Bowen officially quiting the clan. It all happened in like 2006?

(I vaguely remember it all, so please correct me if I'm wrong).

On an unrelated note, does anyone know what happened with Jim/Tom, what does he do now?

My memories are vague too.. but 2005/2006 might have been the time of change.

Modifications: Hejhuka's Arena Mod. Some Bowen's weapons on some maps.

Drunkard's botserver was a kind of unofficial co-op server, you could kill players if you wanted to, but on most maps, you needed to team up.

Beginners could rack up scores over 100+ on this server. Was a lot of fun.

Well without including me. GODZ was for me, the best DX server. There were always a lot of people and maps were very cool. For example Zan Goh and Omaha Beach were ownage maps ^^

And the Fat mod was fun. More frags = More fatty, lol.

Damn, my memory is sucky, I can't even remember another servers. I just remember that I was playing, the most of the time, with [AG]Anubis <3

GODZ was cool up until the instagib rifles came about

Theres a server called "Come here to test my mod please", it's only on the list at nights (UK time), and everytime it says that you're in the server. Is it you? I tried to join the server and the mod was like a 2 second download then connection failed. It could be one of those mods dogny made years ago where it saves your name, so all the players in his server have other players names.

lol, no that was actually me. I was testing the mod, and the server was hosted through a wifi so I imagine any downloaders had trouble.

I will be hosting again shortly on a real server.
