1 year, I predict.
If the masterserver goes down, the majority of people will not bother using direct IPs.
Also, the way the game is going, it is declining.
More and more communities of inexperienced newbies are forming, killing the community as a whole.

the master server won't go down quickly, but if it does there still be possible to play via tcp/ip or via ip applications
More and more communities of inexperienced newbies are forming, killing the community as a whole.
Newbies..... I thought there are only old gamers who trully understand that DX is the ultimat perfect game...All people I Know who play DX aren't newbies..
But why you think they are killing the communies, newbies become pros sooner or later.

I'll say aout 1 year or so too, it's sad really, nothing interesting will be left afterwar5ds:(
I think we might have a chance at completley reviving DX if we get it on Unreal engine 3 somehow...(dont ask me how)
then you would have full Ageia support and everything, people would flock to DX and companies would want to host a master server....

There will no DX3 and all the more so multiplayer for it.
...at least in next 4 years we will not see this game.
I think GameSpy isn't really bothered with hosting a master server and till it is being visited they won't turn it down. They are not stupid and I'm sure they realise that turning it down will terminate the DXMP community.
I'm not agreeing with Marco about newbies: they form the future. But once they become good in the game, they leave the community for other game in most of cases. I'm sure members of some clan called [Z] in sum, overally play like 2 times more than we (A, V, AAGP and so on) do. It's a rare sight now when it appears that 2-3 elites are playing on the same server in same time. Elites are losing interest and it is normal.
And do not forget that we all were newbies... i remember Bob crying that "alpha r cheters" and ferdy in [kingz], Calabria... and not to mention myself a few years ago!
DXMP is alive now by efforts of [GODZ], [A] and [DCSB]. I mean only these days; of course, in the past other clans have kept it, like [AK], [R2R], [TCNdk]/GHOST, [DEA] and some others.
Do not please mix up DXSP and DXMP. The community of DXSP will live quite long and a lot of people, like me, will not forget it.
And noone will port it to Unreal Engine 3 because theres simply no need. Gaming companies don't care about opinions of a bunch of people and "Deus Ex" isn't a well-known brand. And fans are unable to port it properly, not to mention that this is a pure waste of time.
We like DXMP as it is, and on another engine it will be a completely different game. Why not just go play UT04 or CS:S or any other multiplayer game, which has been built and shaped by professionals, which have thousands of servers online and large communities ?

Personally i actually do want to start a group hat will begin to port DX, slowly over to a new engine....licensed under the GPL for sure and with free source code.....
and also if we are interested enough in this we might actually get the attention of a few more professional modders who do this for a living and who do this all the time, they might be willing to help too....
Remaking dx is a great idea, but You wont have its source that easyally, exept buying the unreal engine from Atari, like the creators of DX have done.....

Unreal Engine is being developed by Epic Games, not Atari! A single license for a company with more than 2 people costs from USD 200'000 to USD 500'000.
If you have a spare million, make a donation
