Well, until I can get on MY computer (this is my dad's) and get my UBEROLD shots here are some for ya.

I'll have MY computer up and running in............. maybe a week and a half, 2 weeks. I'm relocating rooms in the house, but I need to get a screen and have a virus removed which disallows me from internet access. (some sort of denial of access virus? My dad transfered it to my computer from another one he was attempting to repair................... If anyone knows a quick fix lemme know).

hrm. Seems as though I can't attach files properly..... Anyone either know why or is it just that I can't see them and you can?

try hosting the files, and then posting a link.

www.imageshack.us <------ good for hosting shots, you'll need to optimise them though.

Tuler. If you know anyone that has a Norton 2004 disc, borrow it. You dont have to install it so DW about the registration or crap. When you begin to install NAV2004 though, before it finally installs it asks if you want to run a virus scan first. Although the virus definitions will be a bit out of date, you can do a scan with that then cancel the installation after it.

The other thing you could try is, if you can get the name of the virus go to symantec.com and see if there is a removal tool.

Also use google and find a program called 'Stinger'. I _think_ its done by McAffee, but not 100%. Basically its just a mini virus scanner - searches for a handful of the common and worst viruses.

Go to start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.
Run that and tick all of the boxes and erase everything. This could take a while if you dont clear temp files regularly.

YOu could also try out microsoft antispy which for me found more crap than spybot, norton 2004 and some other programs combined. On their official site windows validation is recuired. if for some reason you dont want to validate your os then simply copy the filename from the siteinto google and download via some other site =). Even though its mostly for getting rid of smaller crap ( i think) it successfully cleaned my hdd of some nasty worm.

The AntiSpyWare is crap anyways. First off its by MS, so its probably buggy as hell and probably finds random things (google spyaxe - it finds random things that dont exist), then when it tells you its removed it I doubt it fully has. I wouldnt put my trust in it just yet.

why install norton 2004 if norton 2005 is out and maybe even 2006 is coming out ?

if you are interrested in a program that destroys lots of spyware install hitman pro :D , but norton is also handy since it also got a firewall :D

Actually MS Antispyware is pretty damned good. MS hasnt actually gotten around to fucking it up.

HOwever, it's for spyware, not virii.

Read my post again. He isnt installing it, just using the fact that it enables a virus scan straight from the disk, rather than the virus interrupting the installed program.

I don't know much about computers, but I don't think upgrading your operating system while you have a virus is a good idea.

well, I believe that it's a virus which has affected my win files and my registry, so this would refresh them.

indeed. I was quite surprised it munched away that worm i had. It took the program like few hours but I was thinking why not have a go with it. My ms directory was filled with dll files and they kept coming :p

Actually, upgrading would probably work as Windows 2000 and Windows XP both have different Registry and most System Files would be different.

And when you install a new Operating System you delete the old one totally off the Hard Drive (unless you've partitioned it which I REALLY wanna know how to do but apparantly because I've only got one and can't get more it's not possible otherwise I'd do it...) therefore all former files would be deleted.

Even the virus, so it'd work by my calculations, am I mistaken?
