Master servers dont take up jack bandwidth or resources. I cant see gamespy cutting bandwidth to it. People need to get this "Gamespy are gonna fuck over our master server" shit. Its fictional.

And you think they'd come along and contact the DXMP community and say "Hey guys, we're thinking of taking your MS down" ? Or even announce in one of their GameSpy Weekly newsletters that its going? That kind of news isnt even posted on the gamespy website, and it cert wont be posted on an official DX or Eidos website.
IF the MSP is even gonna go, it will probably just go. If its even gonna be announced (which I doubt), you will be able to find it on an official website. Until you can see one of those two, stop worrying about it.

Hybrid just hit the nail on the head. if it happens, it happens. Until then, you cant do anything about it anyways because if the decision to take it down is made, theres still nothing you can do about keeping it up. Theres already backup methods arranged for should it happen so I dont know what your all worrying about.
XMP hasnt had a master server for about 2 years, Im still playing it regular and get more people in a server for a decent game than you find in DXMP.

I'm not worrying about it, I'm just saying that it could happen and I never said that if they did they'd announce it.

Then maybe you should go and play some DXMP.
I've been getting quite good pings on the serverlist, just when I get into servers I find spikes, but that has nothing to do with gamespy. I haven't noticed any spikes BD. Is this happening all the time? (the higher pings)

I've noticed a big change these weeks. My ping will be low until I see an enemy, then my ping will spike to the thousands. It's unbearable...

No its not happening all the time but when their is alot of people playing and alot of servers up at the same time. Also I noticed Csports is having problems with their servers which gather info from our servers could have something to do with it.
Well it could be my old connection I have that is what im trying to figure out.

What server do you play in ?
Is it a server with alot of custom maps ?
Is the person shooting you at the time of the spike ?
or is the person just close to you when the spike occurs ?
what is your connection speed area you live ?
what is the ping of person shooting you vs your ping ?
do they seem to move, shoot faster, eat meds quicker, then you can ?
ANSWER ABOVE QUESTIONS AND I'LL TELL YOU YOUR PROBLEM...

Well im sure you will go ahead and say it's my connection. It is 56k. I been playing with 56k for 4 years on dx, so nothing is new to me. Anyway, it just starting to act badly these 2 weeks. It's been happening on about every server I join. It's been lagging right when we start shooting or sometimes when I'm alone, which I just sit there and wait till it goes back down. Also, I don't really get that same lag when I play games like HL2. LOL, yes I'm probably the only 56k hl2 player...

It's a conspiracy.
They are worsening your connection to encourage you to move to broadband. if you do not comply they will go into your computer via the Slydictec RIUH-Chip and plant child porn. They will then access the nuerfronueatralisaer via the stikacockinmyass and you will be forced to upgrade.
Bullshit, it's just cause your my whore. Bow to me.

I actually was thinking that they were doing that. It's very possible. I use netzero, dial up comes with this inactivity thing that popups up when im playing games or surfing the web. It only supposed to popup when your not doing anything for awhile, which means it dosn't work, its timed to popup and shut your internet off if you dont stop it in time. I'm sure they made it like that to piss people off to get dsl or higher.

I never know which one to go by, server menu ping or in game. Both figures are rarely the same for me.

answer is:
The server you see that has lowest ping with the most amount of players. If server A has 100 with 5 players & server B has 9 players with 100 and server C has 16 players with 98 then server C would be likely to have best ping for you...

Yeah, that makes sense as far as determining higher/lower ping among any number of servers. However, there are generally two servers I play, one of which is usually empty, which makes comparison irrelevant. As well, ping in server list and ping in game can still differ.
