hi to you all
i'd like to know the tricks people use when writing their name:
1) i've finally managed to find out how to change color, so no problem with it
2) i CAN'T (really can't) find out what the code |b stands for, any advice ?
3) i'd like to know how to put strange characters in my name (i mean chars from the extended ascii table like █ or ▲ or Ã

Now I can answer only for 3-rd question. All you need to add symbols into your nickname - to open user.ini file, located in DeusEx/system directory and to select symbols you need in table of symbols. Selected name you must put in the 'name' tag. For example,
Name=Ômègà
Tips:
- You need to save you user.ini file in encoding that will save your characters (select one; to be careful, first of all, copy selected name in another place and if something bad will happen you can get it back instead of doing all work again).
- Don't forget that in 'killed' message your symbols won't be displayed. For example, my nickname is Ðáédálus, when i'll kill somebody, that guy will see message "You have been killed by lus".
- Don't forget, that, for example, russian guys have russian Deus Ex encoding, italian - italian DX encoing, specified for their language. In some encoding they will see different symbols. Some nicknames in my russian encoding are unreadable.

oooooohhhh while we are on the subject mate, can you tell me how to change my name to blue?

You'll probably find that most servers, those with the MTL installed, will not accept colour changes in your name. That goes especially for the more well known Aug servers, though most 0 aug servers are the same way.

If you're North American, and want to put "fancy" characters in your name, use charmap. DeusEx doesn't support a whole pile of fonts, as Daedalus said, but I know you can use Times New Roman and Arial.

IMHO all errors are with language encodings. Name displaying is independent of font in which you've added name in your user.ini because it's only one name-displaying font in DeusEx

i had already tried with editing the user.ini:
i have put characters from other languages (like the ones daedalus has in his name) successfully, but i can't use the █ (alt-219) or similar ascii chars (when i save as unicode they show in the user.ini but not in deusex, nowhere). now i explain better: i don't know if you know rosso, but he is an italian guy who made a flag (███, though i don't know if it displays well here) and i said i'd make it too BUT I'M NOT ABLE TO!!!!

I don't know exactly how did russo made his flag, because i have seen him in game only few times (Warriors don't play on famous servers as partizan, vollkrass were). All servers they're playing are like Another UT demo server's or on some italian ones. All servers they're playing don't have DXMTL installed, so, i guess, russo made his flag as you did on forum in the last message - using colored | symbol.

By the way, i never heard of flags in Deus Ex Textures/Fonts in my dx editing practice.

in my previous post i've used the alt+219 (█) char and not | and i think rosso did use it too since you can see the squares in his name when you are killed and see the coded name (|p1█|p0█|p2█ or something like that)
second thing, what is dxmtl?? is it that thing that makes dxmtlteamdeathmatch and similar games? is it the cause why i can't play that games???? if it is so, where can i download it?

now that i'm registered it shows a damn char code instead of █ (see my name on the left!)

Yes, because it's forum protection maybe. Anyway you can change your nickname in profile or ask me for doing it (i'll do this faster).

i've changed my profile, inserted an avatar and also changed my signature in something less idiot...

and another thing on the topic subject (see above):
i've seen the character better (it's often used in a gods' server name too) and it's not really like █ because its edges are like those of a stamp...

any ideas?

i have tried ~ but in deusex it shows like a really little box, while the character i'm talking about is as tall as a common letter and large an half...

p.s.: has anyone ever tried to press alt+126 during the game? why does that strange screen appear? (i've tried it in mp, but maybe it's the same in sp too)

Well if you press shift+~ when in talk you will bring down the console menu....which does nothing you can do every thing it does .....by just using the quick console
