It seems weaponry in DX is generic. Personally, I'd like to see the icepick from Project: Snowblind.

Automatic pistols would be awesome.

That goey gun as seen from the altifre mod, the days of it exploding and then causing everyone else to explode if hit.
Perhaps the level of damage could be lowered, but it was a great weapon.

I'd want to see some melee moves with weapons that run out of ammo. Or at least a subset of grapple kills that can be accomplished by choosing specific augmentations.

Yeah, but they should be slow and weak compared to weapons designed for meele, like DTS, knife, etc. Unlike Halo. Unless you have combat strength or something.

I didn't like that weapons shared ammo in Deus Ex 2 because I didn't even get to use some of them. I just had three assault rifles, modded differently. In Deus Ex 1, there were strengths and weaknesses to every weapon so you had to manage your inventory carefully. In Deus Ex 2, you only needed the assault rifle.
If the weapons from any game should be ripped off, they should be ripped off from Hitman Blood Money. It has a pretty good melee system (ability to pistol whip and knock people out), and encourages the player to use objects found in the levels (golf clubs, kitchen knives, balconies, wine vats, hiding bodies etc) to maintain stealth. In Deus Ex, when you blow your cover you just have to run away and wait for everyone to forget. There are no consequences for setting off alarms, and no rewards for getting out of the situation without loading a saved game and doing it over. This kind of disrupts the immersion. The later enemies are too powerful to kill stealthily anyway. In Deus Ex 3, head-shots should be lethal and armour should protect against certain ammo.
I also think it would be cool if the guns didn't always look the same. An enemy's gun might have a slightly different skin to your own. Perhaps they could be damaged by return fire. Or the guns could require maintenance like in System Shock. Anything to keep the player from saving and loading so often.

I used the Rocket Launcher in DX:IW. Wasn't completly bad, but I only had real fun with the laser guided missles LOL.
Nice ideas, I like the "skin" idea. A different look for the different organizations, prehaps?

I've already stated my opinions on weaponary.
I believe that there should be about 15 automatics in total, about 5 pistols, and 50-75 melee weapons (I'm thinking pool cues, glass shards, kitchen knives, smashed bottles, baseball bats..)
And to upgrade the automatics there should be a rather OTT customisation system with at least 40 different weapon modifications, all visible, and their effectiveness and success rate of integration depends on your Weapon Modification Skill.

Yep...
Using common things as melee weapons is really cool.
If the game's a prequel then i guess we'll see some weapons from today, at least some closely resembling them.
There are some pretty new designs in dev now.
Like the Heckler & Koch G11 which utilizes caseless ammunition. Pretty cool.

Bear in mind some would be disposable. Like a kitchen plate breaks upon contact.

Could a walrus be a melee weapon? My pet walrus, Mr. Jiggles wants to know. HE'LL KICK YO ASS.

I really don't care what kind of weapons they use as long as they dont look like the weapons in Deus Ex 2, All the stupid lights and stuff on them made them look like toy guns.

You guys have to remember this isn't going to be like the other DX games. It's going to be made with current gen standards in mind, and seeing as games like Call of Duty 4 have done such a good job at trying to keep things dynamic, we could see quite a bit in DX3.

Yeah, I agree with you. Ie: UT3 weapons look stupid as hell atm. Don't even resemble weapons. o_O
