[SOURCE] FLBasketball

As I promised in my journal, I will release some source codes of mine.

FunLine Basketball is a relatively simple modification with a relatively simple code, but I'm still proud of it.

Image Image

In case you don't remember, features of FLBasketball:
  • The ball features smooth movement, improved physics, better sound & design.
  • The auxiliary classes allow a modder to build a complete online basketball gametype, with sharpened, practice-proven cheating and spoiling protections, scoring system based on distance of throw and much more.
  • Classes work without a separate game type or player classes. You may even extract FLBasketball.uc and FLBasketball4Player.uc with minimal changes to use alone without auxiliary classes on your maps.
  • The ball is picked up automatically when the player touches it (no need to press right mouse button -- helpful for high-pingers; although this feature may be turned off).
  • Muscle aug enhances force of throw, so does movement (impulse).
  • Players may force other players to throw the balls by making damage (jumping on each other, for example).
  • Players can manually control the amount of balls in the game, while admins can be sure that the map won't be cloggered with thousands of balls lying everywhere.

The archive includes only the source codes of the aforementioned mod (+ the Readme.txt). After making some changes they can be used by Unreal script programmers to compile a working package, suitable for hosting and playing.

Please don't hesitate to ask questions, because it's been a long time since we made this and I could forget to mention something in the readme.

Criticism is fine, but give Derek a break. He did an excellent job so that it looks perfectly round enough making use of the Unreal 1 engine's limitations to make it look good. Plus the fact the creativity shines whenever it was effort or not to port the model to the now compressed Deus Ex version.

Do you know how hard it is to render something perfectly round?!

I mean!:

Look how poorly jagged this is, disgusting!
You see, you might say "hurpderp then blow up the image of the basketball like you did with my sig!!!!" but you see that is a 3d render, he can just load up the mod and take another screenshot of the ball but closer. It'll still look more spherical than your (unoriginal and boring) signature image that's limited to its primitive 2d pixels.

If you're open enough to do critcism then be ready to accept critcism. Shut up Sike you big gay bear! :smt049

Hehe basketball was awesome on test, although Dae was too good at it <_< (And I think Baleout was good too!)

I got some lucky ones, it was quite hard before the anti box/weapon field was added, people just filled the hoops with the boxgun squares D:

Speaking of spheres, there was a bug about lighting (one part of the ball was absolutely dark) so Derek had to reduce amount of polys and split the model into hemispheres.

I think there were a lot of good players. What I also find advantegeous about it, is that you could actually train your throwing, so it's not some random stuff.

I think I managed to get the max score, throwing it from the opposite wall of the level :S

The ball is nice.

For something perfectly round that looks the same way from any angle (unlike basketball) one could use a sprite.
