Creepiest moments in video games

Postby clyzm » Sun May 01, 11 2:35 am

Simple question, what moments in video games do you find unusually creepy, /alpha/?

For me it's probably the entirety of the well-known (and somewhat unknown) parts of Yume Nikki.

However, Eversion is definitely a top contender simply because it starts out so nice and child-friendly, but ends up like this

There's also this moment in Super Mario Galaxy 2

which up-close looks like this

DeceasedCrab is creepy enough for me.

While this isn't particularly creepy in a disturbed way, it did shake me up as a child of 5/6 at the time.

Near the end of the game, it's been generally a fast-paced game with a fair bit of challenge...then comes a level which is profoundly easy, has no music, and is in essentially pitch black. The atmosphere has always been at least upbeat and pumping until this level, which just has no atmosphere. I fight my way layer-upon-layer of enemies and make it back up to the top and WHAAAAT?!

Was that really creepy or "WHY AM I FIGHTING A GUNDAM WITH POWER ARMOUR"?

The build-up was.

It's not anime enough to be a Gundam.

EDIT: The build-up was, for an easily spooked 5/6 year old.

If you never plan to play it, this only makes sense if you played the first:
It's a sequel to Silent Hill 1. The main character is the young woman in the video (Heather) and she is the newest incarnation of Alessa, she is the same baby given to Harry Mason in the first game as a second chance in the good endings.

If you can recall Alessa was a vengeful little bitch in SH1 and manifested her nightmares and insecurities as the monsters in the first game. She was burnt alive by her mother etc for the plot device.

Alessa's burning you alive, look at the burnt flesh in the room botch before Heather dies of spontaneous burns.
The Room is by far the most intimidating and creepy.

It does, some people disliked going back to the cult stuff though, felt that SH2 was a better direction.
