Yes, we're all hypocrites, relevance? Hypocrisy has nothing to do with the matter.

Kids are kids, they're not teens going through a rage period in puberty.

As Jake said it has nothing to do with it, especially now when games are more and more graphic. Shit, even RE5 is kind of disgusting.

This isn't some Mary queen bullshit Nick. like your post

We mature and realize how much better off society would be without those games.

It's all the parent's fault come to think of it. They know about the rating system, and if they don't, they are told by the seller upon purchase. Quite a lot of parents just aren't versed enough with video games to assess which ones are right for their kids to play. "Jimmy has this one too! He plays it with Dan all the time!", "Oh okay (well it can't be that bad for him to play if the other parents are letting their kids play it)".

Again, there are also parents trying to play the "cool parent" role.

It is known that being aware of all sides of an issue - the more adult, violent, cussing side of life as opposed to the cleaner and censored one - will make one that much more knowledgeable about that certain issue. I am in no place to deny children that, I only question the value of what it is they're trying to understand by playing Manhunt 2.

All children are different, and their degrees of influence vary significantly. All children are introduced these adult concepts at different times as well, and most (but not all) adapt quite stringently to it.

Yes, that's true Derek but that still doesn't mean it's not inappropriate.

That's like teaching a five year old child how to do tax forms.

I don't know. Personally I think music has a more detrimental effect than video games in influencing adolescents. I mean, nowadays we have 16 year old rappers talking about killing and raping women and encouraging others to do the same and they've got a pretty big fan base in the adolescent-teenage demographic.

Oh God, most definitely, agree 100%.

I mean, with games, children are always going to have a 'disinterested' approach to it that means they won't adopt its messages, but it's still hugely inappropriate for an innocent child to be subjected to those themes. Not inappropriate in a OH MY GOD YOU MONSTER!!! sense but more, inappropriate to eat chocolate with roast dinner, or wear socks with sandles (if you pardon the trivialisation).

Just want to confirm that this is why my PS2 was moved from the living room to my bed room.

The ONLY time I've been questioned about the games I play was the laughing scene of FFX.

9:55 PM - Surprise!: i killed prostitutes in front of her on gta3, i played doa2 with age at 99
9:55 PM - Surprise!: and the thing that got to her was the laughing scene
9:55 PM - he's the man: how is that surprising
9:55 PM - Bosscelot: understanble tbh
9:55 PM - Bosscelot: when i replayed ffx recently i just muted it during that scene and browsed the net until it was over
I am dead.
