They slimmed her down I think, anyway yeah bumping old topic. (1 year and a month, God Damn)
I've had a very good time with Soul Calibur 4, it is a very interesting game for me and my favorite 3D fighter for definite, although not as balanced as say Virtual Fighter.
Online is fun yet extremely annoying at times because of the usual tournament fanatics who will use every single cheap opportunity to abuse frames of certain attacks to ensure you'd never get back on your feet. That means that Kilik, Cervantes, Misturugi are overused characters and to make this worse, Ivy can do an infinite attack so easily... that you won't have control of your character at all til she has KO'd you or she gives up. This is why the game is broken.
OTHER THAN THAT, every other character seems to be VERY balanced now, Rock and Astaroth are very easy to play with and can rival fast characters such as Talim and Taki. Nightmare's new moveset has been revamped and is now an equal match for Siegfried, Taki has been made slower, Setsuka has been more useful and Hilde is incredible! The boss character is very balanced also, and not one move is overpowered.
It is missing a lot of modes, but all the essentials are there such as Arcade Mode, Survival (in the form of Decend Tower of Lost Souls), VS, Special VS... sadly it is missing Team Battle from what I know but this actually exists in the story and Tower Of Lost Souls modes which confuses me...
The story mode (which now allows special abilities) has been made shorter and more interesting, unique reactions to characters at the beginning of each round are common and sometimes numerous, my only complaint is that some endings were worthless and it is a chore to read 3-5 paragraphs for the character's opening. Reading material is not what I'd like to see is a Fighter.
Ascend Tower Of Lost Souls is our typical 'alternative storyline mode' for this game, although it has no story which is good because SC's, SC2's and SC3's were lame. You pick your team, put into series of battles where you can finally just simply kill everyone normally, but if you follow a certain guideline hinted by the opening of the battle you win a Treasure Chest with either clothing for CAS or money if you already own the item. This is great because of the rules they forced onto you in previous games were annoying, now it is optional to discover what you need to do to win with a chest.
Character creation, is fucking AWESOME. I've made a few characters one of them are notable is loosely based on (common design for SC4 apparently haha) the cop from The Village People. Other than creating original characters or basing them on existing people or characters is the fact you can edit existing characters!!! I've remade SC Nightmare, Soul Edge Siegfried and Soul Edge Cervantes... and Ivy in Amy's costume rofl. Character creation sparks the best part of the game because how flexible it is despite not having a huge library of parts. (The only thing I'm disappointed in is that you can't might an obese guy.) Your created characters must follow a discipline for existing characters which means none of the hybrids and new stuff you seen in SC3, mainly because they were broken or useless. (I do miss Grieve Edge though, I wish they made a character for SC4 like them.)
The anime characters are useless and clones of existing characters, avoid them at all costs unless you have an odd attachment to them.
The story changes so far, in the famous Soul Embrace scene in the opening of Soul Calibur 3 (which was the canon ending for 2), the hero king's soul contained within Calibur was released, and replaced with Siegfried's soul. The canon ending of SC3 was Siegfried and Nightmare had their fight, Zasalamel was about to absorb both soul swords when they reached their completion during the middle of the battle then suddenly he had a vision of a huge tower, a magnificent pillar of memories of thousands of years in the past. He, as a scholar decided to abandon his quest for suicide to see if this structure ever rises to give meaning to his eternal life.
The concept and promotion art of the women seem to be very exaggerated, the sexual body parts of characters are much more normal looking in game and more 'realistic' big breasts (exception of Sophitia, her boobs are too huge) rather than unrealistic and sickening blobs of flesh, as seen with DOA4's odd engine. Also kinda related, Ivy is still canonically a virgin.
Critical finishes are beautiful, Cassandra's is funny as fuck.
All I've got to say for now.
