Pokemon from the Ruby and Sapphire games CAN be traded to Diamond and Pearl. Just don't expect to get them back without restarting, as once traded they can't be "un"traded.

Metagross owns all. And if you have Diamond or Pearl wouldn't it make more sence to trade it over to that rather than keep it on a game you're not likely to play again (if you own Diamond/Pearl)?

When (not "if", WHEN lol) I get a DS I plan to do the same thing. Or restart Emerald/FireRed six times to get all the starters and pwn everyone with them. The only downfall to being able trade with Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen is that you've got to beat the Pokemon League/have seen 150 Pokemon to trade over first -- I know as my m8 told me lol.

Starters are turning a bit....overrated. I usually get a really crappy Pokemon and train it into a killing machine.
