Was announced this morning that Manhunt 2 isn't gonna be released anymore due to its violent content.

Not that I care, but we got informed by head office at work this morning as soon as the announcement came though.

Seems a bit stupid. People can watch stuff like The Hostel, yet an 18+ rated computer game is banned for being too disturbingly violent? Rofl.

Maybe. But at the end of the day, its only planned to come out on the PS2, its not even going to be a next-gen game, which I could understand for being disturbing and scary due to its realisticness.

Eventually they probably will release it, but they'll have to dumb down the violence and gore.

Last Manhunt drove a 16 year old to chop up his best friend and dump his body in a lake (true story), I guess they upped the violence even more.
A CNN reporter, while interviewing a Marine Sniper, asked. "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist?"
The Marine shrugged and replied, "Recoil."

Drove a child to do that?

I find it impossible to believe that a 16 year old of a sound mind would play a game and then murder someone, because of a game.

Anyone who chops up their best friend is clearly suffering from a mental disorder, which a game may influence if an insane person is suceptible to that, but would definitely not be the cause.

No, seriously there was a full report on it in the Daily Mail around 3 years ago.

The Marine shrugged and replied, "Recoil."

I'm not denying the murder at all. But I dont think Manhunt would have been solely responsible for sending a 16 year old child insane.

At the end of the day:

- The child was 16, not 18, the game is rated 18, this makes it the parent's fault on that aspect
- I believe the child had a collection of knives and blades? (if this it the same case I am thinking of), again the parents fault on this aspect
- The child was mentally deranged enough to chop up a friend, why, before this, was he not detained under the mental health act? Parents fault? Social services?

Manhunt may have given him the final 'push', but if Manhunt didn't exist it could have been anything else.

It was also reported once that a child jumped to her death, after seeing the second Pokemon movie, claiming to believe she was a Zapdos. :?

Indeed, it does make you wonder about these childrens mental stability. :?

If a video game or a film makes someone do violence towards other, it only means that this person has already "unstable psyche" or whatever it's called in medicine, and the game only causes demonstration of this "unstability", not the act itself. In other words, a person with a sound mind wouldn't have ever done that...

I know you're not denying and it does seem impossible to believe but this 16 year old loved it so much that he wanted to re-inact a scene, it happened before with the Bloodrayne film. Wow, if parents buying underaged games is morally wrong then my parents must be on the child abuse list.

Games have age ratings for a reason.

At work, you see parents buying their little girls and boys as young as 5 GTA games, we warn them it has drug abuse, violence and prostitution, and they're like "Oh it'll be fine they won't understand what it means"

Lmao the story on ITV was like 15 seconds long

Yeah, they found a copy of Manhunt in his PS2, so everyone assumed the violent game drove him to insanity. Thus they span that part of the story to make it seem like Videogames are bad. As fucking usual.

On topic,

My Grandma has that in her spare room somewhere. Meant as a present for my uncle, but she lost it. And I found it, along with an old Sega Master System.
