Dystopia mod for Half:Life 2.

Postby Siva » Fri Aug 24, 07 12:21 am

For those of you that haven't heard of it or played it, I downloaded it yesterday and I have to say, its easily the most genius total conversion I have played in my life.

It has a very very distinct Cyberpunk feel to it.

Its 100% unrecognizable from its HL2 roots, bar the menu. The whole GUI is modded.

Each map is mission based, requiring alot of teamwork.

There are Lights, usually playing as "Deckers" (Which are the hackers of the game, that go into Cyberspace and turn off\on turrets, clear vents, and other electrical interference.

Then there are the the mid-range guys, who usually play Support roles such as throwing Tesla-balls (I'll explain later.) healing, and scanning for the enemy.

Then there are the heavies, the "Big Daddies" to the Deckers "Little Sister." When done right, there should be a Heavy in front of a decker clearing the path for him to get the delicious JIP. (Jack in Point, where you enter cyberspace.)

Cyberspace can only be accessed by those who have the Cyberdeck or the Advanced Cyberdeck, which is a cerebral implant, only avaliable to the Lights or the Meds. (I'll ALSO explain later.) Depending on your class, you'll have either 3-5 (I think, if I remember correctly) Spaces for Cerebral Implants, and 5-7 for Body Implants. Cyberdecks take 2 and 3 spots respectively (I believe. Stabbing in the dark.)

Each class gets a choice of 4 weapons. You are automatically issued with an automatic pistol no matter what class you are, but Meds and Lights only get Katana's instead of the Heavies "Fist". The difference being with a Katana you can block melee attacks with a Fist you can only punch.

This mod is really disorienting and has a steep learning curve, but once you get past that it becomes extremely fun.

Here's a couple of screenshots from me playing earlier.

This is a Jack in Point after you've been Cyberfragged. (It shows their spray on your JIC for about 10 seconds).

What you look like once you've Jacked in. Your body remains in "Meatspace" until you Jack out or are killed. Which is why you need protection. The reverse of the film "The Matrix".

I have played it throughout all the beta stages. It's a great mod/game. Havn't played since v1 was released. Very good alternative to DXMP I must say. This is a professionally made total conversion mod, so basically it's just a new game using Source engine.
