Buy games folks, seriously

Especially if digital downloads. (retail products earn 70% royalties)

Do you know how much PC gaming is falling?, the newest Unreal Tournament sold around 30,000 copies for the PC version. That is Unreal Fucking Tournament. I know you're poor and etc but Jesus Christ start buying games, want to know the success to the Xbox 360?, People buy their games because no one has successfully pirated it yet or hacked the thing properly. Wii is also a victim of this and as far as I know when people start burning blu-way discs to the PS3 which is already hacked its already encountered its downfall, although it could be pricey to modify at the moment like the Playstation 2 was.

People I urge you to buy videogames, especially Steam games, I urge you to buy every game you think you'd love and will play for a long time online. Developers need money for the game, every game for the Playstation 3 for example is losing money per game and no one has made a profit at all, it costs 15 million to make a average game. Compare this to Metal Gear Solid 4 which won't make a profit at all unless 10 million copies sell. (Metal Gear Solid 3 only sold 3.7 million, compared to the 7 million of MGS2.)

I'd like to add Games for Windows isn't helping.

UT3 is not a very good PC game, compared to it's predecessors. It feels alot more sluggish, the vehicles are slightly overpowered (40 killing spree in a manta without shooting, what's that about.).

Graphics a good game do not make.

The Witcher has done fantastically well, and that's not even got a legacy.

Also, Stop buying Xbox games Jay.

I can only buy so many games. If you want to buy a sig off me it goes towards PC Gaming. Hurrrrrr.

UT3 is the exact same thing as 2K4 with better graphics and a better engine, although you may argue that there is no point buying a game for that only well I don't care, it doesn't deserve that.

The Witcher had hype in the wRPG community, it has done for years, I heard about the thing 2 years ago through Penny Arcade.

If I stop buying Xbox games, I couldn't have any more games to enjoy because I can't pirate the thing, or play online with games when I pirate them anyway.

Contra 4 didn't even do so well either, a mini game beat it.

I'm a gamer through and through. I buy loads of games, but the only problem is, my computer isn't high-end. So I don't buy the LATEST games. I just buy any game that I think will suit me at the time. From handheld to PC.

There's loads of games me and my mate would love to buy for the PS2 (he owns a PS3, but as far as I'm concerned, the Wii owns that in differences and the 360 owns it in games).

Noooooo, see, that's the thing, to you -- it is.

But to it's target market, the tournament players, it has fundamental differences. Changes in trickjumping, as I said before overall game speed....

It's ALOT like GoW.

It looks like GoW, It plays slow, like GoW, the characters look like they're plucked straight from GoW, just had their armour recoloured.

Serves Epic right for attempting to make lightning strike twice.

So what if UT3 is like GOW, nothing wrong with GOW at all. And yes, I do buy games, unlike alot of the other scabby cunts who don't.

Thus UT3's failure. The UT community weren't expecting another GoW. If they wanted another GoW I think they would have bought it.

Its nothing like GoW, just because the same company uses the exact same design or engine doesn't mean it, its just synthetic touches.

In that case, Deus Ex is Lineage 2.

Let me put it this way. It feels closer to GoW than UT2k4 to the original UT.

It's a good game. But it's not quite UT. Just because it says Killing Spree and Dominating doesn't make it UT.

No point in me having this out with you, the majority of the UT Community agree with me.

I buy some games but majority of the games on my PC I've downloaded from an illegal Steam or by torrent.

Trial before purchase I guess.

and the games you buy will cost around 20-50% of what the "latest" games are worth. And for that kind of money you can already buy two games.

Im in the same boat in that regard. I dont really buy games, but then again, I dont really play games bar few compared to real "gamers". And Ive tried to follow the tradition of buying what you like. I think Ill buy DX second time because I had to buy a shitty sold out. I want that neat one in the cardboard package or what that was.

Apparently I've written an essay about that :)

In my country the situation with piracy is pretty amusing. Russians still haven't learned that the non-material content, or information, could be paid for.

First of all, the government has developed a copyright law without "loop holes" only by now. Earlier it was legal, for example, to scan recently released books and publish them in the internet on public websites and moreover, owners of those websites could legally earn money from advertising. Same with games and all other content.

I probably said that before — here, there are many stores which sell games, music and software. I counted four on my street, and they are everywhere, not just city center. Every CD/DVD box, regardless of content, costs around 3 euros (= 5 USD or 2 GBP). The CD/DVD with a game usually contains a game, downloaded from the internet, already patched, cracked and translated. Same with software. When you buy one, you pay pirates only, who just downloaded content and burned it to a disk.

That is illegal, but not here. And not only because of "loop holes" in the copyright law. Pirates get giant revenues and make a powerful lobby, mostly by paying bribes to the government services which are supposed to fight with piracy.

Our agencies, such as "KGB" which is now called FSB, is more interested in eliminating opposition to Putin, than fighting with piracy. Every school, every government service and agency runs a lot of illegal software.

If you're willing to buy something really legal, you'll have to make an effort to find a store which sells legal things (DX1 and DX2 weren't sold in Russia at all). But why would you do that, especially if you earn a salary of a typical Russian — around 500 euros (per month)? Moreover, till a few years ago the pirated stuff was sometimes even better than legal — software and games were patched, fully translated, etc.

I was only talking about "reality" — the internet gives freedom even to the opposition to Putin — let alone those, who share and download illegal stuff :P
Providers support that: many of them created big intranets (local area networks) where users share up to 150 TB of illegal stuff between each other. Downloading from intranet has many advantages upon the internet — it's easier to find something, no dead links, no queues and minimal speed is 1 megabyte per second.

I think that the developers and distributors of legal software not always understand that their situation isn't as bad as it seems. Even though Russia is getting richer, selling stuff by European prices here is impossible. They should find a way to cut costs and sell stuff on prices close to pirates, with a lot better quality, and they will eventually win.

Quality mainly in translation. This is the only thing what pirates can't afford or do properly.

Also, they don't consider distributing through the internet. They don't work with fan sites, they hardly advertise.

What I want to say that they miss a giant market and it's generally their own fault. On a side note, we have a population of 142 millions, and like 60 millions are active users of the internet.

I couldn't be fucked if someone downloads a game or buys it. I buy it, but I what Cataclyzm does I believe to be justified, to an extent.

In my opinion, developers should make bigger demoes for games and also make them more often. More often than not they either don't make them at all or they remove them after the games been released.

Well of course not, you don't make games for a living do you.

As for PC gamers whining; it's their own fault (piracy). See sales.
