Epic cannot make up their minds

Postby Siva » Sat Apr 26, 08 1:18 pm

First, I'm sure some of you will recall CliffyB stating that

"I think the PC is just in disarray... What's driving the PC right now is Sims-type games and WoW and a lot of stuff that's in a web-based interface. You just click on it and play it. That's the direction PC is evolving into. So for me, the PC is kind of the secondary part of what we're doing. It's important for us, but right now making AAA games on consoles is where we're at."

Then, Mark Rein, head hauncho of Epic said

"Oh he's an idiot [laughing]. No, he's a great guy. Cliff makes console games though, right? He's on a console team that makes what is primarily a console game", Rein said in an interview with Tom's Games focussing on the newly formed PC Gaming Alliance - of which Epic is a co-founder.

And now, CliffyB has flip-flopped and said

"Abso-frigging-lutely", the Gears of War creator has said in response to the question, "Cliff, you buy it? PC gaming is back?".

He was speaking in an interview with MTV focussing on the newly formed PC Gaming Alliance (of which Epic is a co-founder) that's aiming to propel PC gaming to new heights.

Methinks Cliffy had a stern talking-to from his peers behind closed doors.

Yeah, sounds like it. It wouldn't be good for gaming developers to wipe the PC of the gaming map. Especially when it's upgraded much more frequently then a console is. Considering that a console doesn't get new hardware upgrades like a PC*

* Even though a console can't be upgraded (with hardware, that is) it doesn't mean it's less "valuable" (for lack of a better term) than a PC is. As years can go by with a console before developers finally learn some new features they can do with a console (either graphical or gameplay wise). Look at the PS2, a lot of games looked graphically shit on it when it was first released but then you look at games like Samurai Warriors or GTA and it's like they're made on something completely different. Same goes for the Xbox as well.

I'm not going to go into the whole console wars again. Every gaming system has it's ups and downs. I prefer the PC but I only have a shit laptop and I can't afford a desktop nor afford to upgrade it so many years.

I like PCs....

I love console gaming companies, but I hate how most console games are made at 320 x 240 and 640 x 480 resolution, Just recently progressive scanning worked ok, but with a loss of bandwith and framerate.

The only reason companies switch to Consoles is because a Gamer can't pirate the games and they can charge a premium for a game. I hate how Console Games are around $60 to purchase a game that has been on PC for 6 months to 2 years. I equally hate how you have to pay $50 for a PC game filled with bugs and glitches that by the time they fix all the errors, the game would drop to $20 - $30...but at least it drops...while the console version remains at $60 for a long time.

So...many companies are ditching PC, just so they can MAXIMIZE their profits by raping console gamers. There are laws protecting PC software, in which consumers can return them and get their money back. There are no laws protecting a console user. If you buy a Console software, open it and wether it works or not...No refunds. On a PC if a software package doesn't work, it can be returned for a refund.

Also...Consoles are like PCs...You install games on HDDs now....this is why they offend me. Xbox360 and PS3....piss me off because when the PS2 and Xbox1 was released, they had to have a good Quality Assurance group....where few bugs would exist in games, but now there are bugs in many console and PC games and Quality Assurance for Hardware and software seems to have disappeared. The old generation of consoles....I like their games better...always have :)

You don't see media attention for PC's and hardware on the TV anymore so the bulk market goes away none the wiser.

Not where I live...

Most stores here, If you buy a CONSOLE game...most store policies state to exchange for a working copy.

This is actually what got people to go against Corporations and shy away from Windows Vista. Microsoft thanks to laws put in a 30 day saisfaction policy on their operating system for evaluations, but Stores that sold the operating system said "You buy it, you keep it" so they stores actually kept your money...and believed returns were because of pirated versions.

As long as software has Serial Keys, like Operating Systems that are Unique, Consoles or PC...refunds are not allowed in many places. You pay for the License/Serial Key, not the actual program itself.

In this country, you can return any game that's not online or securom.

You can't return bioshock etc.

But they're not entirely up on it yet, World in Conflict I could return and that had Securom (I got another copy from a mate)

On another note, I like world in conflict...

Its the only game in existence in which you can play on dual monitors and each monitor displays something different. ^_^. All hail Dual Monitor Widescreen. Widescreen LCD for information, Widescreen CRT (Yes, those exist and I have one) for the actual game :)

Inquisitor.....You should configure your CRT. Most decent CRTs themselves allow for 100hz @ 1024 x 768....and then adjust the picture. I guarantee you wont see the lines and your headaches will go away.

The easiest way to lose in a First Person Shooter gaming tournament is to simply use an LCD. ^_^
