It's that time of the year again, the time that kills the bullcrap. What's to be expected in this year's convention? For starters, ASUS is making a move on the next Eee PC after the vastly improved Eee 900 by adding an Intel Atom processor to increase dwindling battery life:

AMD is TRYING to keep up with NVIDIA by cloning their ideas: Hybrid Graphics, Quad Crossfire...bah!

It's rumours galore surrounding Apple and their 3G GPS iPhone; too little too late:

Had enough? Tough. Rumoured new handheld device from Apple: the iPlay or the iTablet. Somehow I don't think the iPlay will be released so recent after the SDK (which does its job anyhow...) and Pandora making a move on open source.

I am looking forward to this year's convention simply because I want to move into emulation and ASUS has a godly device.

I know a lot about this already So let me add my two cents...and correct your post...

ASUS is doing well, but they suffered a defeat from Gigabyte. Gigabyte started making better boards than ASUS to the point ASUS tried to buy them out through a Merger and Gigabyte said No. ASUS recently started outsourcing parts from CHINA, meaning I will never buy an ASUS board again while Gigabyte still manufactures its parts in Taiwan and Japan. They have direct ties with Nikkia Assembly Plant, the third largest assembly plant in the world. I do own an ASUS board for my AMD platform, but the Gigabyte board I have.....is actually the preffered Overclocking board used in HardOCP, Anandtech and dozens of other sites. Their models are DS-3, DS-4, DQ-4 and DQ6.

In regards to AMD. Its actually the other way around.....

AMD made a Hybrid Idea through their 780G Chipset. It was the first Chipset out there that allowed a discreet graphics solution to be used combined with an integrated graphic chipset. They allowed HD 3200 integration to occur and currently its the most powerful integrated chipset out there. It took them 2 years to develop that technology.

Nvidia saw that they were selling like hotcakes...and they ended up creating an Integrated Chipset Idea by going another way. They wanted to not just have the idea that AMD put into play, they wanted to find a way to run Direct X 10.1 without any x4AA penalty by seeing if they could combine the chipset to make up for the performance hit...and add more memory directly.

Everyone has been taking in Anger by Microsoft's Vista and their Direct X 10.1 forcing users to use x4AA as something mandatory which ruins the image at high resolution, that everyone is trying to find solutions...Also the companies realized that many people exist who are not extreme and have been making more products to suit their needs.

AMD Beat Intel Anyday. And I Like Computers Also. I Have A Small Buisness Repairing Them (£50 A Month Max) But Not Many People Trust Me As Im 2 Young Lol. Stuff Made In Chine Is Poor Quality.
Gigabyte Are Good. Ive Seen A Few ASUS Boards With Blowen Caps.

AMD beat Intel Anyday

Their Athlon 64 line still have the lowest latency out of any processor today. I own a 2.4ghz A64 on one machine with 1GB of 2-2-2-5-1T Corsair RAM. The latency is 40 - 45ns at stock speeds. That is damn good considering the multiplier in that processor is 12. 200 x 12 = 2400mhz.

Although I have a very powerful computer....its timings are not as tight as that one system and one processor.

Also, when the Athlon 64 went from 130nm to 90nm, the power consumption dropped from 89w to 65w and some models were released at 45w. If you are a basic user and do basic things and old games....You can drop the voltage to .75v and the multiplier to 4 to have an 800mhz processor that uses around 5 - 7w of power and still have tight timings.

Try taking a Core 2 Quad processor, you will find the latency is 140 - 200ns. The lowest latency I received from that processor was 60 - 80nm but I had to be overclocked to 4 - 4.2ghz in order to do it. Considering that on a bus of 200mhz, no processor beats the 333 - 400mhz BUS processors under latency....its quite an achivement....Also the A64 has all the extentions and optimizations for 64-bit computing. Put in a 64-bit OS and watch that processor truly shine.

Im not biased when it comes to brands. I simply know how to take advantage of each brand and each architecture. if you need single core, and want the greatest optimization, the A64s truly are amazing processors, that is until you reach their dual core line where it all goes downhill

Edit: I forgot to add, that currently Intel owns AMD in Integer and Overall performance, but not in Floating Point Performance, but video cards take care of floating point performance a lot better. A 2.4ghz A64 beats the X6800 processor in Floating Point Performance.

Thinking of upgrading my defective Dell by replacing motherboard, adding AMD Quad PERHAPS and slapping in NVIDIA 9600 GT.

You have to make sure that the Phenom you receive is not one of those with the TLB errors. There is no guarantee that by ordering one, you will receive on without the error. This is the reason I didn't buy a Phenom.

Hell with it, I'll just get Intel Quad.
