My new monitor

Postby Destroyerzero » Tue May 20, 08 12:43 pm

I've always mentioned how I hate LCDs with a mighty passion, but how can you get Widescreen? Is there a monitor which can deliver the only best element that LCD has in image presentation in 16 : 10 aspect ratio and combine it with the Bandwith, Imaging technologies of a SOLID Aparture Grille and show its glory in Gaming?

One that would put LCDs completely to Shame for not just this year, but for all eternity...considering an LCD never will be able to display colors correctly thanks to its backlight but hey, it works for the 95% of people who read email. download music and surf the web all day...

The answer is Yes....

A monitor created by Sony which was discontinued not because people didn't want it, or because it was bad...but because so many wanted it and it was in such high demand that no one was buying Sony LCDs!!!! The same game that viewsonic and NEC played.....Discontinue what was ACTUALLY GOOD and in DEMAND to maximize profits by selling something shitty, because it appeals to the mainstream while selling out the minority (who carry the most weight in the industry)

We, The ones who call ourselves Gamers...Who call ourselves Artists....WE ARE THE REASON why technology is made...To further our gaming, engineering and art...and take them to new heights

The Monitor itself :) Here is a picture..............

http://www.smashmybrain.com/downloads/100_1435.jpg

Behold! a 16 : 10 CRT that can go to 2304 x 1440 resolution @ 80hz...It also has an ACS to scale to fit in proportion 16 : 9 and 4 :3 resolutions. This 24 inch monster is GODLY in games images......My favorite resolution so far is 1920 x 1200. Before giving you a few screenshots, something you should know about me....

Im a heavy gamer when the time comes...Im a Mercenary. I join gaming tournaments for prizes and money. As long as the prize is decent, I join. If i win a prize and I can't use it...the first thing I always do is contact a friend who needs it and mail it to that person. In this picture you see my hardware...

A Merc Gaming Keyboard, which allows up to 8 buttons be pressed simultaneously without the keyboard locking up and losing bandwith. It can be set to have 1ms or 2ms response time instead of the normal 8ms response time. To my right its my Ratzpad...A smooth Gaming surface that cuts away a mouse user's greatest enemy...FRICTION. which goes against movement. Then you see my Logitech G5 mouse, which has a 1ms response time as well. On the top, to the right and left you see my Klipsche speakers...It has a giant sub and these speakers are part of a 5.1 surround sound set....The sub can go so low, that you can hear the sound of Lightning and the Sound a TIE fighter makes as it flies by without any loss of quality. Perfect for hearing your footsteps a mile away.....

Of course I gotta have my pringles and if you look in the bottom left.....under the denatured alcohol...You will find.....THE DETH ALBUM....All hail DETHKLOK!!! ^_^

Oh, such technical shit......and I haven't given away my comp specs yet or gaming configurations...Nah, I wouldn't want to fry your brains. I will say that the response time only shows in CRTs, because the 8 - 16ms response time in LCDs..makes it really slow to update an image on a monitor for you to see...specially since they update different colors at different rates...and I notice that and it pisses me off!

If your refresh rate is 60hz, then 16ms x 60hz = 960ms (per major refresh)...Enough time lost for all your high precision equipment to be rendered useless and for you to become kitty litter! Trust me...In a tournament where it can be you having to kill your friends to win the prize...You don't want to be on the short end of the stick...specially when an asshole tries to belittle you in a final round.

Ok, time for screenies. I don't know how these will display on your end....But they are fantastic on my end. Please note that you will see it based on the colors in your monitor.

Guild Wars, two screenshots. 2304 x 1440 (Maximum Settings)

ok, how about Oblivion? 1920 x 1200 (Maximum settings + HDR)

"The Nine Divine are boring. Daedra? They're never boring." :)

Ok, how about UnrealTournament 3? (Max settings, Post Processing = Intensive)

Of course you would want a DeusEx screenshot....so here is to bring it on home :)

I've always loved A51Bunker

I just ordered a second one of these monitors. These things are great and show me a godly image that is nothing short of perfect when im playing. in fact it encourages me to play even more to see the pretty graphics.

Next time, I'll show you Call of Duty 4, Command and Conquer 3 and one of my personal favorite games of all time, Two-Worlds.

Trivia Question: What video card do I have to allow me to run Unreal Tournament III on Maximum Settings (All Sliders Set to 5 at FOV 100 with Post Rendering = Intensive?) and 1920 x 1200 with 60 - 70 FPS :)?

I wanted to show images without AA (High Resolution doesn't need Anti Aliasing) and I also wanted to not have any AF just to compare them later to shots using AF :P

P.S: Once I get my SECOND monitor, I will run dual monitors and take screenshots of World in Conflict Dual Monitored :P

I love FOV 120. That monitor is a godsend. I own the top CRTs in the industry because I work a lot in Modelling, Mapping and Coding...An artist needs to KNOW what colors are being used and when, as much as I have to know a note on my guitar and when to play it and why they are being played.

Thanks to backlights...No LCD can ever display colors correctly. Its a fatal design flaw. It can be 200 dollars or 20 million dollars...by design flaw itself....one loses out.

In computers, very minor changes can give you a completely different color. This is why when you go to the EL forumboard (using it as an example). You see this dark gray color, that looks like its between gray and purple when using an LCD. You see these washed out colors that give you a different color.

The truth is that the colors are different shades of purple, dark purple and light purple, with contrasting colors...When you view it on an LCD, it looks like another newb design, when you view it on a good CRT, it comes alive.

I was expecting more from this thread

Gimme a shout when you run Crysis with stock very high and get 70fps.

However

The monitor is the very definition of swish

Also, is that a ZBoard lol

Well here is my Command and Conquer 3 Screenshot :)

Three hoots for exagerations ^_^

Max settings, 1920 x 1200 x16AF

http://www.smashmybrain.com/downloads/cnc3s1.JPG

Now for two screenshots from one of my favorite PC games, two-worlds! Take the same engine as Oblivion, make it more hack and slash as well as more story oriented.....where you can affect many elements directly. Have different number of environments with some more detail.....and play the role of a mercenary as a main character....and you've got two-worlds.

Once again, Maximum settings 1920 x 1200 @ 85hz + AF x 16

http://www.smashmybrain.com/downloads/tw1.JPG

http://www.smashmybrain.com/downloads/tw2.JPG

You can beat this game if you rush it, in 12 - 15 hours...but then you miss out on a lot. When you are done...Unlike Oblivion....There is Multiplayer!

Now if I can get PSO and PSU to work at 2304 x 1440, that would be nice. One of three legendary HUnewearls in the game....and im stuck on 1600 x 1200.

In regards to Zboard

That isn't a Zboard, its a Merc board. Both are created by Ideazon, a company that targets gamers directly with high bandwith hardware. I used to use a Logitech "Gaming" Keyboard, but that would lock up like most keyboards after holding 3 - 4 buttons together...I would get instruction errors and entire commands not executed and ignored.

Try moving diagonally with W and D, and pressing Space Bar to Jump, while switching a weapon, and it would cancel out one of the moves. I get no cancellation and the Merc has the keys on the left tilted 11 degrees so you get a more relaxed position when playing. Those keys are more sensitive so you don't need to deal with the delay of pressing heavy keyboard keys....and the 1 - 2ms response time is very good too.

I used to have a Zboard, then it met water.

Zboard and that merc thing look exactly the same.

Also, I can hold 5 keys with this thing, which is more than any human would ever fucking need. And it cost me £1.50 from some guy at some place

I used to have a Zboard. There are two space bar keys on the Zboard. It was nice and lightweight.

6 Keys at the same time.

Moving with W + A, S or D (Keys) while Swinging a weapon + jumping //4 keys
Loading a Defensive Shield and Activating it. //6 keys

Very typical in roleplaying games. Along with so much bandwith that combing that without a mouse doesnt cause cancellation.

I'd love to see an FPS rating on some of these, along with a GPU spec :)
