Biggest disappointment this generation

Bioshock: with the amount of crap the developers spewed out of their (actually just HIS) mouthes talking about "the ecosystem" and "randomised events" it was hard to believe it wasn't thought up by Peter Molyneaux.

Don't you mean most PS3 games?, lol

Haze and Lair were supposed to be fantastic.

Eh, I liked the PC version of BioShock when I played it on my cousins PC but I never finished it, so I went to Wikipedia to find out the plot and when I found out, I realised it's just crap. Certain aspects of the gameplay also are shit IMO but the storyline is what gets to me, it's just eh. I just don't like it.

You must hate Deus Ex and System Shock 2.

Just because I don't like one game doesn't mean I have to hate all others similar to it.

Well you said the story was stupid.

I said I disliked the storyline, not the gameplay. And I prefer games with a strong storyline and gameplay.

Do you think Deus Ex or System Shock 2 have strong storylines?

Sorry, "strong" was the wrong word. But do note that peoples opinions on what a good storyline is is going to be different to yours. I just didn't like BioShock's. Why do you have such a big problem with that? Am I not allowed to like anything you do now?

I too thought this.

Biggest letdown: The Half-Life 2 Episodes. Because they're forgotten the best part about episodic release: Fucking RELEASE DATES.

:?

The main character is basically an artificial human/clone whose main strength relies on the unnatural plasmids/augmentations to get through the game. How did the whole ADAM thing come into place?, compare it with the nanomachine and UC experiments in the DX series with all the technology breakthroughs they come up with which are supposed to help, but the power behind them wishes to use them for sinister needs. Fontaine's troops that follow Atlas can be considered to the likes of MJ12 (Atlas is the symbol of the Invisible Hand in this game), whereas Ryan's loyal men are considered to be like the Illuminati. (once rulers, now crushed)

Strengthening the connections between Deus Ex and Bioshock are elements from the original System Shock and it's sequel System Shock 2. Fontaine/Atlas can be compared to SHODAN/Polito who all play a similar role to Daedalus, Icarus and Helios who were based off SHODAN anyway. While Deus Ex left off into a open ended action game, Bioshock continued with it's roots as the System Shock 3 spiritual sequel with cheap scares and awkward moments of paranoia and powerlessness in a linear but well controlled game.

Why would I come to such a conclusion?, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Looking_Glass_Studios

Do your homework. If you're going to slate Bioshock's story you do not belong on this forum.

It's 1960 dammit, who still uses Thompsons and magnums.

It's 21** dammit, who still uses laser rapiers and mutagen viruses.

You're missing one important piece.

At least in Deus Ex it's slightly plausible that what happens can happen. The Illuminati could exist (well that much is obvious). It's also more realistic that augmentations could exist in 2050 - THE FUTURE - then plasmids or an underwater city the likes of Rapture existing at anytime in the 1900's.

But BioShock acts as if the Colt M1911 or the AK-47 were not invented yet.

Then again, it is an alternate history.

Grays don't exist and nor do magical slugs.

What are you trying to prove?, I just completely rinsed you from when you made the mistake of calling a plot of a game rubbish when it's the same one this entire forum is themed.

Transgenics are just that. They weren't born they were created. Who knows, by 2050 we could be doing the same fucking thing as in Deus Ex. How do you know? However I'm pretty fucking sure in 1960 there weren't things called plasmids, Big Daddies or Little Sisters.

By the time I'm 60, there won't be cyborg police running around.

Deal with it. I still don't understand this side of the argument.

It's an alternate history game. In an alternate history game they could have plasmids, mechanical wonders such as Big Daddies, and even the idiotic decision to mass-manufacture the Thompson over the Kalashnikov.

Anyone who slags Bioshock off has no taste in games. They also seem not to appreciate the sublte genius and psycological plays the game makes. I don't know any other games I cannot play for too long simply because it is genuinely scary.

If you take the time to actually appreciate the game and listen to all the tapes and understand the back story, the little bits and pieces that make up the people who lived there and everything that happened, not to mention the clever plot twists, then you realise just how amazing the storyline is, yeah the ending wasn't the groundbreaking ending that would have iced the cake, but it was still a good ending.

Also any of you people questioning the likeliness of it, I'm sorry how ridiculous are you? Star Wars, Dragonball Z yeah those are likely occurences aren't they, in a galaxy far far away, long, long ago.

Crouching tiger hidden dragon, hero, the matrix, they all have unbelievable things, does that stop you liking them? No. So stop being so damn idiotic all the damn time.

I believe BioShock had a really shitty ending. It lead up to it quite nicely and then when the whole plot gets laid on you it made me say "what the hell?" That's the specific story plot I dislike, so I apologize for being slightly ambiguous.

Regardless I wouldn't buy it. I could barely handle fucking Doom 3, and my cousin insisted I play BioShock in the fucking dark. Though BioShock for me, didn't have that whole darkness factor that Doom 3 had. And it wasn't often when guys would spring up on me, except the Big Daddies which were not only a bitch to kill but scared the fuck outta me if they got close...

I agree, the story barely stood on its hinges. Throughout the experience there was the "oh, and by the way..." factor.

Steal an unwanted baby, hyponotise it to follow your every command, make it leave Rapture then come back again and kill Andrew Ryan. Why not rush his chamber with your army of splicers?! As far as the game's concerned you ARE a splicer.

This is worse than the ending to the LOTR the Return of The King: flying out...why not fly in!
