I didn't see the live announcement, no. So what though, as far as concerned, if you saw it first you wouldn't have waited so fucking long to post it. Seriously, this is groundbreaking news and it deserves it's time to shine.

The Grand Inquisitor, have you played ANY Action-RPG? If so, it's more than likely based off Diablo. Diablo was the beginning to those games, I don't know if it was the first Action-RPG but it was the Action-RPG to start all others. And Diablo III will probably try and end all others, lol.

Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest, hell even the crappy MMO Dungeon Runners, is based off Diablo in some way. They're all rip-offs of it (Dungeon Siege II and Titan Quest majorly).

I'm not a fan of Action-RPGs myself, I prefer the D&D-based CRPGs like Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights but Diablo is different, Diablo is fucking awesome.

Its barely an RPG, more so hack and slash with some D&D combat elements... Which kind of makes it an RPG in sense of calculations, but of course once again you don't roleplay. (the class characters are already set, and appear in future installments.)

Also if someone else says leveling up is a sole RPG element you're getting banned from the forum for an hour.

I'm quite serious, I play RPG games a lot... and what is the main goal? Leveling up! Thus, it's basically, a RPG element.

This is disputable. Leveling up is indeed a common element of RPG games, but is it really a role-defining element?

Of course not, I'm just fucking with James.

Leveling up can be found in all sorts of games. I also play Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and you receive XP + rewards there as well, does it make it a RPG game? Hell no, it's a shooter.

Leveling up isn't a sole-RPG thing. Even though, in case of Diabo 3, it is :P.

He's not totally wrong but it depends on the game. Things like D&D-based RPGs generally involve some sort of leveling up as their main priority but I actually enjoy role-playing in games (which I don't get to do often because most people don't like genuine role-playing or RP at all).

With multiplayer RPGs it's so much different to just leveling up. And I don't mean MMOs, I mean any RPG with multiplayer options. Like Diablo, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect, etc etc. People use emergent gameplay so much in every game and it's not any different with RPGs. When you're not training you can do some PvP, play mini-games, role-play or anything else you can possibly think of.

I do believe RPGs like to level way too much but that's kinda their point. When you level up you gain access to new skills, talents, abilities, attributes, equipment, etc etc. But with first-person shooters, you usually just go in, find some guns and start shooting.

On FPS games your "level" is generally based on your skill as a gamer and how good you are at that game (whether it be Deus Ex, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Halo, or whatever) but on RPGs you actually level up and your level determines your skill. While you still strategise (same as in FPS games) when you come against a harder opponent (or any opponent at all) on an RPG you have more options to be strategic about (what skills to use, what spells to cast, what weapons and armour to equip) and being a higher level helps in battles because you'll have better equipment and skills.

As far as I'm concerned, in most cases (definitely not all), RPGs are harder than FPS games. On an FPS game it's more fast-paced and you have to stay on your toes and be fairly paranoid but on an RPG you have to think of so much more, you're not just working with guns (or in TF2/Battlefields case, "classes" as well) but you're also working with so much more (mentioned above).

Diablo 2 is fucking old. Yet, I could install it right now, and play it for days.

There is something about that game that not only makes a boring slash and smash game into something exciting, but also carries with it a massive replay value.

Two other people told me on msn about D3. I am not as excited about its release, but I will definitely get around to playing it.
Ive been told the game has some impressive physics.

My current wallpaper also happens to be a screenshot from D3.

Especially common monsters like skeletons, zombies and anything demon-like and/or undead. Kicking demon ass owns.

I got D2 recently, gunna play it shortly. Goddamn it's addictive. I never really could get into Action-RPGs. Tried Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 (own both games) and I thought they were alright but really boring after a VERY SHORT while. And Titan Quest was just incredibly repetitive. Diablo though, it's REALLY addictive lol.
