wikipedia wrote:Dead Space is a third-person action video game, being developed by EA Redwood Shores for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. It is currently scheduled for release in October 21, 2008. The player takes on the role of an engineer named Isaac Clarke, who battles a polymorphic alien species called the 'Necromorphs' on board a stricken interstellar mining ship.

Looks promising, and not just a GoW clone either simply due to four important things:

1. It's in space.
2. Dismemberment was an option in GoW, in Dead Space it's a necessity.
3. Weapons are not military; the main character is an engineer and thus weapons are mainly torches and stasis weapons, for mining
4. Scare factor which I heard will be like Condemned.

I don't suppose that being an engineer would mean crafting your own weapons or upgrading with parts? :$

Anyway looks allright, dismemberment ftw

After Bioshock was released EA have been enforcing original titles. I was not insinuating Bioshock is original but hear this out:

Dead Space
Mirror's Edge
Spore

Original ideas, from EA?!

Nah owned by the company, they've only set onto their own feet again now that they're making something other than Sims games.

I think the idea behind the mining weapons is that they're not intended to be efficient, humane and agile thus adding to desperation and excess.

While I will probably buy it, it does contain a lot of gaming clichés such as:

Stasis (selective bullet time)
Disaster situation (trying to make sense of what happened)
Diary entries (heavily influenced from Bioshock)
Zombie-aliens (Necromorphs)
Anti gravity (Prey)
Suit (Halo influenced slightly?)

What are you quacking?, logs have existed far before Bioshock, Zombie-aliens are the most uncommon form of life and the only thing that comes to mind is Warhammer 40's Neocron (but they're robots, which also negates living robots such as Stroggs from Quake) and contrary to popular belief, Halo didn't invent gaming.

Anti Gravity is very unpopular in single player games

STVEF is the only game that I plaid that incorporates antigravity

Before Halo hardly any game hero wore a helmet; except Samus.

But admit that helmet-bound heroes are in bigger numbers than the pre-Halo era.

No. Pre-Halo era's helmets are more in number, now days its just yellow visors or lenses to copy Halo.

Okay, so you'll have no trouble naming other heroes with a boasted suit and helmet system.

Not really. There is no shield. Just your health which is displayed in a long green bar that looks like your spine. Then theres your stasis power which is displayed in a circle. (Or is it a half circle? I can't remember.)

I can't wait for this game honestly. It's said that it will be scarier then Condemned.

This looks stupid. Same old beat to death alien plot, only now with the funniest name ever, NECROMORPHS (!!!!!!). Somehow it gets points because the characters job is different.

The sad thing is that's it, there isn't another original idea for a shooter.

I'm going to be deadly honest here. This isn't no complete Alien/The Thing ripoff. If anything this is just Resident Evil 4 in space.
