I'm going from a Desktop PC to a Laptop, and I need Alpha's help.

Things to sell:

- Two 17-inch LCD Monitors
- Brand new set of Logitech speakers, two speakers with subwoofer and "control station"
- NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 512 Mb video card
- Brand new Cobra case, not a scratch:

- Mobo, cd drive, etc. etc.

Now, out of all this I'm looking for something that can give me a bit of gaming and some heavy duty video stuff. So far, the MacBook Pro seems like the best thing to have. What does Alpha think?

Question first! Why are you downgrading to a laptop :(

Also what kind of games would you want to run on it/at what quality :O

All I can say is: If you want a gaming laptop, NEVER, EVER, EVER!!! rest it on your lap.

My media center laptop will give anyone who is foolish enough to do so veeeery nasty burns.

I got a cooling pad because my computer used to get WAY too hot. Worked like a charm, even if I didn't use it on my lap.

I don't want a full-on gaming PC. The maximum I'd want to run is Source. And I'm downgrading because its easier to carry around a laptop tan a dual-monitor desktop setup, among other reasons.

Hmm. I might need one of those.

My laptop's CPU has gone up to 90, read - NINETY degrees C a fair few times. When that happens, the laptop sounds like it's grown Harrier thrusters and is about to take off. :P

As I posted in the past mine reached rather high temperatures too. Now, I've heard of desktop PCs getting that hot (still seems dangerously hot too me though) but laptop PCs and their crap cooling?

I have this cooler, worked like a charm before my laptop crapped out on me (though this is expected when an entire cup of tea is spilt on it, I am notorious for doing that).

It's a sweet cooler. Made my laptop bloody cold, just the way I like it lol.

My question is why a Mac? Have you used them before and just prefer them over Windows?

The OS, look & feel, battery life, display color quality are top notch. Keyboard is excellent, I type very fast on it. Snow Leopard sounds also very promising.

On the other hand, it's much pricier in Europe; the OS won't run many games; only few things (like RAM & HDD) are upgradable (you know, some geeks might want to upgrade processors in laptops etc); also, to connect it to an external display you would need Apple mini-display to DVI adapter.

But in my opinion, a laptop won't replace a PC especially when it comes to video editing.

Don't buy a Mac for gaming on that budget?

But Asus do make excellent laptops.
