One question. Whenever I go into the apple store and get 15 store attendants trying to sell me a mac and we go into the inevitable Mac vs PC argument, one thing they always say is its better for graphics/editing and that sort of thing.

How is it better? As far as Im aware the Mac doesnt have any superior software or hardware that can do the job any better than a PC? Adobe products, tablets and such are all available for the PC so why is a Mac better for it?

{Constructive things people, lets not degrade to MAC IS GAY PCS ARE WANK, please}

Probably because you get the software out of the box like iPhoto and iMovie, but that suite is still not professional. Of course there is always Final Cut Pro and Aperture but not sure what they're like.

The idea that Macs are better for graphics/editing comes from early 90s when all typographies, all publishers, all designers were using Macs. Now it's nothing more than a marketing trick. Apple might have a couple of known software exclusives (Final Cut Studio, for instance), but PCs have hundreds if not thousands of them (like #1 3d modelling suite — 3DSMax, all Corel programs, most audio editing programs etc). Even Adobe Photoshop CS4 on Mac runs slower than on Windows.

Mac OS X, though, is generally faster than Vista, consumes less memory, and Snow Leopard (future version that comes out in September) will be entirely 64 bit.

The idea that Mac hardware is faster is absolute bullshit, because Macs are just normal PCs with EFI instead of BIOS and put in nice-looking cases. It all doesn't justify their prices (and the fact that prices don't lower with time), especially in Europe and especially in Russia.

An equivalent of Mac Pro can be built/bought for a 2.5 or even 3 times cheaper price.

In fact the only way for you to get better performance out of an Adobe product is not to switch to Mac, but to buy a Quadro or a similar accelerator designed specifically for Adobe products. That, or get more RAM.

OSX runs faster than Vista

But not fast enough to make a Mac significantly better than a PC.

The price isn't good enough to make it significantly better than a PC.

Mac OS X itself is a pretty good system, except for several flaws that keep pissing me off (like mad mouse movement logic/curve, or that Finder is very outdated, or that it extremely sucks at playing HD video).
