Oh God only have 2 minutes prepare for massive inconsistencies.
I've played these types of games all my life but only been recently interested to get into them lately, my first game MIGHT have been SF2: The New Challengers followed by Mortal Kombat and SF2: Turbo. Ever since I lost track and been playing less par 3D experiments that came out like Tekken, Soul Blade, Dead or Alive etc. I played the shit out of Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Xmen Vs Street Fighter though. I used to think that the Soul Calibur series was perfect until last year because it is utterly shit compared to more 2d style fighting games. I got my ass handed to me on Street Fighter 3: Third Strike and was like oh what the. Simplier games with less inputs?
Simplier my ass.
Got my ass handed to me on Street Fighter 2: Turbo HD Remix on 360 near New Years, got into the JoJo Capcom fighter and actually learned how to play these videogames! I'm actually very decent/kinda good at the JoJo fighter, anyone familar with it?, tell me. From there I went into 3rd Strike, while still being raped I still knew a lot more than I did and effectively got beat less. Now I'm trying SF4 while it's still kinda fresh for newcomers playing with E Honda, Sakura and Dan.
Zeno Clash was awesome. It was like a 3d Golden Ax in some fucked up enviroment.

TEKKEN 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
SOUL CALIBUR 2, 3, 4
mortal kombat armageddon
Edit: I regularly play Tekken 5, I'm not that good at any fighting games due to the fact my thumbs start hurting from 500-HIT-COMBO, but it's good stuff and some of it is actually based on real time combat (for example Christie's capoeira style)

Third Strike is the pinnacle of competitive fighting games. MvC2 is the pinnacle of fun fighting games.

Virtua Fighter 2 on the Saturn.
Shun Di is my favourite fighting game character ever! Yes, even more so than Scorpion and Blanka.

I liked Mortal Kombat 4 very much but it gets boring after a while.
Anyone knows a good fighting game for PC that I could get from torrent?

Mortal Kombat for SNES, only fighting game I ever gave ratsass about. 10 years later I found a skeleton of SNES among my trash and we spent an evening playing MK with my mates from Gymnasium. I had 'em beat. True story. SF always seemed kind of homo to me.

Johnny Kage, most people in MK are also topless!
Street Fighter is just racist.

I keep forgetting to reply to this

I kinda didn't make myself crystal clear on this (made it seem like all 3d fighters suck), Tekken is actually balanced like 2d fighters (and I'm told, very similar to JoJo in professional confrontation?, footsie or something.) Soul Calibur is a mess.
