Dragon Age: Origins

Why does it feel like I've recently jumped on top of this generation's series of EA Bioware games?!

Bioware's Dragon Age wiki wrote:Dragon Age: Origins is a dark heroic fantasy roleplaying game developed by BioWare set in a unique world.

As the spiritual successor of BioWare's popular Baldur's Gate series of games, it uses a pause-and-play tactical combat system. Dragon Age: Origins features a stunning amount of cinematic dialog and BioWare's attention to a deep and involved story filled with complex and living characters. You will be able to acquire party members on your journey, each with their own unique story and motivations.

Anyone here pre-ordering and/or created a character yet?

I'll get it after I see some reviews.

Bioware are doing too well, one of their games must be substandard.

I'm hoping that EA don't push the envelope on this one. I believe BioWare to be a goddamn awesome developer, they're currently my favourite, in fact. I just have my worries over what EA may do with their cold dirty hands.

:( Still wish I could buy it. Two things I would love for Christmas:

Dragon Age: Origins or a 6-month WoW subscription. I'm not kidding on the last one either, it's an extremely practical gift and saves me an extra $20 NZD a month. However, I would actually like a release date on TOR before I made any decisions (because one TOR comes out I probably won't be playing WoW).

Played it today. I am by no means a hardcore rpg player who's been beating baddies with a stick since before the internet was invented, so I wasnt all sure what to expect when my friend told me about it. Having recently finished mass effect (yes took me a while to get to that) I thought I might like it no matter how it turns out.
The game struck me as fucking awesome to be honest. The native elf start up seemed tad generic though definitely rather good, but when my cute elf princess gutted the enemy and chopped its head off I was instantly sold. I didnt like the controls in baldurs gate.. or the way the camera worked in gothic 2, but this game with its wads OR diablo style rclick movement choices is truly flexible.

Now to figure out how to turn the gore up.

Some tips because I fucked up my first game Ken:

Use a tank, Alistar comes with sword and board but make sure he learns Threaten as a warrior skill.
Make sure you have a rogue in your party at all times who knows how to lock pick; if you arent playing a rogue you'd find a rogue bard in Lothering named Leliana who's an awesome ginger girl with a French accent. She's not as pussy as you'd think first impressions.
AT LEAST ONE MAGE AT ALL TIMES MAGE AT ALL TIMES MAGE AT ALL TIMES

About specialisations, you can combine 2. First is chosen at lvl 7 and secon is chosen at lvl 14. You can save the points to choose them at any time so don't rush if you're planing to get a certain combo you like.

Oh and don't buy the books for:
(Warrior) berserker, templar, (Rogue) bard and assassin as they're taught for free by party members. 15 gold for each is fucking brutally harsh seeing as you can get them for free if you're nice to them.

Also all specialisations are unlocked in future playthroughs so take note that you can destroy the planet with a reaver champion tank in your next playthrough if you do a certain quest two different ways in two games.

It's just that the game has far too many gay undertones and a lot of homosexual exploration routes lol.

For example of the undertones; Jory and Daveth, their lines were carefully created for if you unequip them (people who like to unequip members when they know they're going to leave), nothing changes its just that now they're naked the dialogue becomes much, much more fruity in the conditions they're in.

Interesting, wasnt aware that its taken to such depth with more characters. Still level 9 here, finished Brazilian forests. Might head to help out that Orléans girl who just coincidentially happens to remind me Jeanne D'Arc with just about every important convo.

Maybe, human as I am, I am seeing connections where there are none.

Are you saying that more than one male character was pretty much flaming gay, btw?

Zevhran and Leliana are both bisexual. Alistar hints at it all the time, Ohgren doesn't give a shit and would hump anything and your character can encounter homosexual NPCs on his adventure and take anything he wants at a brothel to what he chooses including a scarecrow.

Morrigan is a fucking ice bitch tbh

Image

Still, not entirely impossible

I think Mass Effect's scenes were way better, at least they showed partial nudity... in this one it's like a soul connection and shit

Anyways, thoughts on the game itself; it feels really, really similar to Mass Effect and also the zombie raid in the village was fucking tough because it required me to think (thank god for fire arrows) and fire from long range.

Then the entire castle part of that level, my party was basically dying during each minifight and regenerating later... I recall this one point fighting the revenant with his fucking ZOOM IN attack, I had to formulate a strategy and shit with Alistair on the arrow duty and Morrigan doing some mage shit from afar.

It really is a great game though, just feels like I got dealt the short end of the stick on that level. Also DUAL WIELD

I've heard it's a good game if you actually want a challenge and not a mindless button-masher/PUSH THIS BUTTON TO KILL SHIT AND WIN INSTANTLY kind of game.
