As a member of a UK university, I can get it for cheap.

By far yes. The most reliable OS MS has put out since XP.

Yes, all your game will ran with it ;)

I have far more positive things to say about it than negative.

So...

Get it :)

Is the Retail version the same one as the final RTM (build 7600) version?

Or perhaps uni gives you access to MSDN? I got access to MSDN & thus free Microsoft software.

No, the retail version is not the same as the final beta version... Hell, since booting it up i've already had to download several major updates.

To quote ZylonBane from OTP, a quote that has stuck with me:

Anyone who willingly switches to a .0 version of ANY Microsoft product, without some compelling reason to do so, is a bloody fool. And that goes doubly so for their operating systems.

Heeey that opinion is void to be honest!, 7 is a MUCH better version of Vista.

The day after I spend £65 on it I get told by my college I can get it for £30 for being a student.

Argh!

Anyway got it today and will try it tomorow hopefully.

Where on earth did you get it for £65? I had to pay £99.95 at PC World for it. Also, it somewhat looks like Vista though it has alot more visual features (and doesn't suck up processing power and RAM like Vista).

Can't say I agree with this. XP was decent on release.

I also had no choice with Vista as it came with my laptop.

Why not return your copy of 7 for your money back, then rebuy it, this time using your student card :/ Unless you already opened it of course :S

I don't get anything for free as a student. I get discounts, but whether that applies to the MSDN or not I have no idea.
