Origins was an experiment of Bioware which was an emphasis on the character's backstory affecting the main campaign a lot.
Dragon Age 2 will feature the set character as Hawke (similar to Shepard of Mass Effect), a human survivor of Lothering who fled after the darkspawn that desecrated the village on their onslaught. The game will place you in his shoes and will rise you from the refugee to a champion of the West Marches set across a 10 year campaign. The developers seem to want to focus on your decisions in a huge span of time, that seems to be their emphasis on DA2 so it's not a ME clone.
