Almost think the OP of this topic should be remade as a stickied topic. Really handy.

I guess this is the de-facto computer build thread

I just wanted to say I placed an order for an i7 3820, X79 motherboard and 64gb of RAM, have no idea what the performance jump will be like (I'm on a Core2 Quad 8200 atm sitting on 4gb)

Nice build. Good reviews on that PSU?

I've heard good and bad of XFX, so I'm curious.

Lucky sob

You finna overclock to 5.0? I'm at 4.4 on my i7-3820 right now and honestly I can't tell the difference between this and 3.5

Also as a sidenote

I put all my Windows and design software on an Intel 330 series SSD that is 60gb, I'm currently on 25gb free. It was fast as hell when I started, load times were like 5-6 seconds for startup and ~2 seconds for Photoshop.

As time goes on, it's getting slower. Load times for Windows is now exactly the same (sometimes slower) than my old SATA II 500GB drive. What's the point of an SSD, again?

Probably too many programs starting at the startup?

Type msconfig on the CMS, go to startup and remove every program you don't need.

That's not it, I have about 3 programs that start up with Windows and they're basic ones like the video card driver and such

I think it's just the lifespan of the SSD in terms of read/write tbh

I've been using my SSD for a little more than a year, and I haven't noticed any speed change at all.

Yours could be defective. I know my friend's was. He had the same SSD as I (OCZ Vertex 2), and had to RMA it.

Funny thing is, it should be OCZ SSD's that die first, and not intel. Sandforce chips are known to create issues, and OCZ bathes in that shit. Intel on the other hand does not use sandforce chips.

I figured out the problem was the stupid Intel C300 chipset and the stupid stupid Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers that came with it

Speak of the devil. Came home today to a dead SSD.

LOL. Fuck You OCZ. I think I'll RMA, sell the drive, and get an intel, or Corsair SSD.

I'm currently on ubuntu, and am about to install windows on my 16gb USB stick for the time being.

Seriously good shit, though I'm still going to laugh so much at anyone who buys a Titan x2, considering the speed at which hardware comes out these days.
