Games in America have 'guidelines' but not actually legally enforced age ratings?
Just copying this from someone, Christ.

It's totally inappropriate for kids to be playing games like GTA.
Regardless whether it has adverse effects on them, but they still should not be subjected to those themes.

Yes. I played GTA from 8-17 because my mum did not know and didn't care for what content of the games I was playing. The ONLY time I've been questioned about the games I play was the laughing scene of FFX.
i'm going to be the strictest cunt ever. mature movies are fine by me, but if i catch my kid when they're 12 playing the latest postal or naruto game they're getting smacked/orphaned

I think any content is appropriate for everyone older than 14.

I'm going to tell people around the age of 14 to read the entirety of Junji Ito's work in one night, read Existentialism from Dostoevsky to Sartre, play Disgaea and watch the Tweenies.
Ohhhh right you meant violent and rude content. Of course... but I'm not letting a child play Disgaea even if he's 35.
This is where my concern comes, apparently in US you can be an 8 year old and buy GTA. There's merely guidelines apparently, you can just buy it. There's laws against purchasing if you're not old enough in the UK, of course nothing against purchasing for someone else who's too young.
6 YEAR OLD: CAN I HAVE DIS LESSHA SUIT LARRY GAME HE LOOKS FUNNY

Not the autist hooker killing.

I can not see how can GTA affect the children playing it.
I think TV has much more effect than games, and if kids those days are getting more retarded it is the easy going politics adopted by nows day parents.

GTA doesn't affect them (ie, doesn't make them in to hooker murderers) but ruins their innocence and changes their priorities (ie, they no longer have a period of uninterrupted absorption).

Easy. Most children are influential (this also depends on parenting, which is without a doubt lacking these days). They play a game they know is made for an older audience.
They're exposed to swearing, drugs, violence, (bad driving/racing/ricing).
In their friend group, they hang with their friends who also play it, eventually start swearing, rebelling, lose potential, etc.
Since I was a wee lad, I have recognized these groups growing up. Hell, there was even one guy who started smoking marijuana since grade 6 and was dealing it (AND hash) by the beginning of grade 7.
The majority of those guys ended up in positions of a DUI, Careless driving, hardcore drug addicts, beat someone up out of anger (sober at that).
Granted there are a lot more factors, but the ones that played a lot of GTA were THAT ^ group. Figure that one out. The game definitely plays a part on any child's life. The BBFC, PEGI and ESRB should be enforced to a greater magnitude then they are now in my opinion, and parents need to stop being shitheads trying to play the cool parent role, and wonder why their kids/teens are little shits down the road.
I would also like to add that there were a few that escaped this way of life and went off to school, and are now nice people.

Those guidelines are extremely enforced.
The nearest BestBuy IDs you for anything rated higher than Teen, spray paint, and even fucking computer spray.
I was ID'd for computer duster. They're seriously strict, and it's funny because BestBuy employees know as much about computers as the nearest 14 year old.

Wow. God Damn, these replies. Gonna quote people who said interesting stuff:
We need straight up educational games. Ban any game involving kill streaks.
Educational games are a good idea, even if they aren't heavy on it. I used to learn a lot of the world from games like Civilisation 1 for example, history (and not geography, save for city names) was taught more throughout that game to me than school until I was 13, when history was starting to get interesting.
I've also got a stance on educational cartoons over brainless petty shit, I'll rather have my kid watch DVDs of the Magic School bus than the XTREME cartoons that'll be out in the future, like Ben 10. But that's for another topic.
changes their priorities (ie, they no longer have a period of uninterrupted absorption).
This, the poster motive for "I only play mature games for mature gamers such as myself".

Very good to hear, even if it isn't legally obliged. I bet there's plenty of people apathetic to this though.

bizarre post.
gta influences weak willed people, also young children are susceptible to be influenced and affected by stange media, i certainly remember shouting "shut your fucking face uncle fucker" when i was 11 years old (11 years ago) thanks to the south park movie.
if you think movies/tv or whatever is less dangerous for children, you're a retard. the main argument that sometimes it's played by real people is stupid. you control the actions in the games.

So I made an interesting AND shit post. Neat. My point is that kids are easily influenced (followed by examples).

Actually, kids like that song because it's catchy.
I doubt any 13/14 year old knows what Dev is talking about, maybe the delinquents know, but not the average kid.

This x1 million
I was playing GTA in primary school, its how i learned curse words, no joke, i dont think a child should be subjected to this kinda thing any earlier than need be, curse words isn't the worst example, but GTA has far progressed since the top down shooter i played when i was a kid, and of course, GTA isnt the only game to watch out for, you catch my drift!

The ones that don't, will learn. When I didn't know what things meant, I asked, and looked up. Just look around and see how many little kids are on youtube! Even making videos of "how to do this", and "how to do that". Kids are versed in technology more so these days because they become custom to growing up with it all. Technology is way more interesting now than it was when we were all kids.
You'd be suprised by how many kids like that song because they think the artist has "talent".

Dude I meant to say that TV and movies are more dangerous to children than the games.
I know a bunch of ppl including me that have played GTA while a child and no one of the people I know is now a drug dealer or experienced any kind of drugs, or drives the car like a retarded.
It is the parents fault if the kid is exposed to bad music and bad tv programs. At least my parents never let me hear funk when I was a kid or watch some reality shows. I'm very grateful for that.

I was talking about vocal talent, and the ability to create a good song (which it is not, no matter what perspective you put it in).
