Sorry if it's a stupid question, but what the heck is a "cloud" based OS, what does it mean in software terms?

When I hear the word "cloud" I just think about the clouds in the sky. lol

No, not exactly.

I can't explain cloud computing in the terms of Windows 8 other than a virtual desktop.

joking aside the capability of turning a desktop UI into a touchscreen UI on the fly is handy but definitely not for everyone and shouldnt warrant a new OS.

It's Win7Mob influenced tab/touch UI looks like a pamphlet or a ugly tumblr layout. general use thats going to suck.

Holy fast as fuck boot (if on an HDD).

Kind of makes me wonder if they have an SSD in that HP laptop though...

Regardless.. Non-Mechanical drives are the future. Either that or DUHD drives.

The premise of Cloud computing is when a server hosts all of your file systems and applications, and you stream them over the internet.

This won't make sense to anyone here, but it will eventually take on and take over because basically the main driving force of IT development and growth is corporate business.

You are the boss of a large corporation. Do you want;

A) A set of full build PC's, where an IT team and a network administration team have to ensure that software, OS updates, fair-use, security is all handled per server, per machine.

The issues they encounter are;

Error logging:- Network issues, Hardware Issues, Software Issues.
Software Licensing
Security
Any security based audit reporting.

or

B) A set of dumb-terminals, these are bare bones machines, which stream content from a server farm offsite. You have a network administration team only, instead of filtering software, this team administers traffic on network only, and ensures that internet reliability is always at 99.999%.

The issues they encounter are;

Error logging:- Network issues
License agreements with ONLY the provider.
Passing on Audit reports from the service company.

In a nutshell, buzzword or not, cloud computing is more user friendliness for less control...

That's the trend, that's what sells.

Same - saves me time going:
*open UC compiler*
*open Explorer windows for DXSM editing*
*open Firefox*
*open Notepad++*
*open Steam*
*open MSN*

over and over for every restart.

Sounds like you two need to invest in the future (flash based memory).

In other words, get a solid state.

-and no problem Jay. I stumbled across it, and it was pretty crazy :)

Accept you'll rarely see it on a mac.

Makes more sense for Microsoft to implement it on their windows products lol.

I prefer the original terrifying Windows BSOD. At least then it's telling you it's a serious error

Sorry Jay, but seeing as you frequently do it makes you a giant hypocrite.

If I do it, it's because everyone has read my previous post and has not given a shit to care/reply.

This new BSOD is news, and therefore I created a post to show people something they would be missing if I only had edited my post.
