It's generic as all hell, but I still want it.

It's a combination of quake 4 / fallout 3 / borderlands.

I love the ai though. Looks fun.

It's had so many delays though, been keeping track of it since 2007 believe it or not.

The game also freezes while it says SAVING DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER

id is usually good with updates. I bet it'll be fixed within a few days.

No. It is a terrible game. The pop ins however are fixed with latest GPU drivers. (Carmack on Twitter.)
edit. Fair play, he out right said it was a console game months ago. The game is receiving poor/average reception. There's barely any options for graphics and IIRC at this moment of time it does not utilise GPUs enough. Ill upload a screenshot of console later.

I still think it'll be fun. To what degree? Not sure.

"I was pretty bummed by the texture popping, strange artifacts, random freezing, crashing whenever I open a door, and inconsistent framerate. THAT WAS UNTIL I FOUND OUT YOU COULD CRASH... INTO OBJECTS!"

RAGE, from a settings point of view, may be fixed now.

I played it and completed it rather quickly. It's a fun game and thankfully the linearity isn't game breaking. Personally however I think they ruined it with providing such an anti-climatic sequel-bait ending.

If you think that was bad you should see Hard Reset's.

He backtracked on that statement July 2011 saying it was a huge mistake.

But yes this game is a consolified mess which is bad on console and PC, it does not impress as a tech demo either. A poor forgettable generic shooter with racing side missions.

EDIT:

Wait this is another recent statement?!, John Carmack PLEASE make your mind up.. or rather start making good games.

I'll make a bad console port and later blame PC that can't run that crap.

Say what you will, but I've been hooked on Rage for the past couple days, and have no urge of any sort to stop playing.

The first patch fixed most of the issues. However there is still some screen tearing even with vsync on. This might be because my monitor refreshes at 120hz, however I sort of doubt it. The large texture cache option is fantastic as it eliminates text-pop for the most part. STILL wish there was an extra large texture cache though.. as when driving, I can still see brief text-pop in the far distance, and (out of vehicle) in large areas when looking around.

I think Carmack is on his way to fixing Rage completely. Asides from these small issues that remain.. Rage is fantastic. I love the AI, detail to environment, weapons, buggy-play, voice acting, and character model expression.

When playing, I do recommend playing on hard mode. If you've played many of id's fps's, you're used to the logistics of their Tech__ game engines and will probably find the game a bit easier than the generic COD player.

But the AI... god damn. Kudos id.

-and you'll get more respect from me when you fix the game entirely, and never fuck around with consoles ever again for future titles.

I've seen the updates. I was pretty impressed.

I don't think Rage can be fixed though, just wait until you get to the final areas of the game.

Where there's a Carmack, there's a way?

I really hope id can fix it completely. Such a shame.

Awaiting shitstorm on that final area then.

Carmack is likely to work on id tech 6 soon.

Just bought it. Initial impressions: it looks nice, but I don't find myself with a reason to look at it...

Fucking sick of console ports though. DAMN YOU GTA III.
