Address (city, state/province, zip or postal code)
Country
E-mail address
Date of birth
PlayStation Network/Qriocity passwords and login
Handle/PSN online ID
Sony admitted that credit card information, used to purchase games, films and music, may also have been stolen.
I guess it was hard to miss this news today, it's even on Euronews.
What's not in the news is this
techland@time wrote:A user claiming to be a moderator for a popular PS3 downloads forum has an intriguing (if highly speculative) theory up on Reddit about why the PSN went down. This user notes the outage corresponds loosely with the release of Rebug, a firmware tool that unlocks development features in a retail PS3. According to the theory, Rebug PS3 users may have gained access to Sony's private developer network (the so-called "external intrusion"), entered fake credit card information (unchecked against an authentication service, this user reasons, since the network is private), and were thus able to pull down PSN content like gluttons feeding at trough.

This is a disaster for Sony, what was just a small issue before with PSN being down has now turned into a big big incident

The reasons to dislike Sony's approach to videogames just keeps mounting up for me. Whenever it's their fault or not.
The database was reported to have absolutely no encryption on it. I struggle to see a company of Sony's size with the data of millions will not provide that kind of protection for it. Whoever has it pretty much has got plain text with zero security
Funnily enough, an unconfirmed rumor (with nothing to base it on) has been passed around that they're planning to move PSN+ forward as a mandatory subscription to play online because of the attack. Highly unlikely but if it ever comes true; lol.

The only thing Sony have done for the better of this videogame generation is secure good second (?) or third party exclusives for the PS3. The amount of damage they've caused to themselves, the PC format and their users is incredible.

I think it's absolutely disgusting that there was relatively no security protecting the information, I wouldn't be surprised if a vast number of people took Sony to court over the matter. People have already apparently lost alot of cash due to this which was taken with the information that the hacker(s) got. Fortuently I managed to get my card blocked and replaced before they got to me.

Something tells me that after all that has happened this console gen, Sony is going to make the PS4 flawless.
I mean, they kinda have to (and at a good price point too!). There's already a lot of people flocking from Sony because of this incident.

The more I learn about Sony (including the prosumer market), the more it makes an impression of an overblown bureaucratic corporation that has lost the ability of understanding and reacting to the situation adequately. Its existance became a derivative of its enormous scale. As a result their products are less innovative, thus rarely become #1 on the market and even if it happens they are more prone to lose the title very quickly because of inadequate pricing.
So speaking of PS4 the only good thing Sony can do with it is to dump the price, but make the best product? Very unlikely.

Yes. I can agree with that. As it is unlikely, it's still possible.
Such as I said, it has to be flawless. They can't fuck up any more.

They weren't top of the market 2005 - early 2010 because of that attitude.
Riding those PS2 was popular waves did not work when their user base was scattered with cool new motion controls from Nintendo and good portions of traditional gamers going for the 360.

So they're actually almost certain now? Because they had no bloody clue this morning.
Also, that really sucks, man. Hopefully things won't go pear-shaped. Well, things are pear-shaped now but let's hope that pear doesn't go mushy.

I don't mind the PSN being down, that i can handle, but for Sony to be big headed enough to have minimum security on our bank details and the such, because their "confident" PS3/PSN could never be hacked, is down right disgraceful.

I have a feeling that Sony is going to eventually die in the console race if they don't get their shit together by some sort of magic.
Also, the FBI is all over Sony. Sony is allegedly being sued, but there have been no arrests yet.

The latest, is that Sony has found no evidence of stolen credit card information, etc.
They are physically recreating PSN, and in another more "secure" location.
After the upgrade is complete, PSN will come back online alongside a firmware update. With this update, every PSN user is required to change their password.
Even More News:
Every (modded or unmodded) 360 console that has ever been banned has been unbanned today. Nobody knows why, or how. Microsoft is looking into it.
Could this be linked into the PSN attack?

Didn't they say the credit card information was at least definitely encrypted yesterday out of the lot?
Oh Sony... rofl.

Well, the database has been put up for sale on a 'crime blackmarket' forum. And perhaps it was encrypted, but if they also manage to obtain the key to decrypt..
EDIT: Apparently, the hackers first tried selling it back to Sony, they refused.
