Square Enix haven't got any interest in making innovative games anymore, they really should just become a CG movie company.

Japan's game industry in a majority is obsessed with 'moe~' to appease the Otaku's trinity (Videogames, anime and manga) than developing good games. "My little brother is my little sister girlfriend" and other pedophile works will sell more. Hence, the focus on kawaii~ FF13 and 13-2~~~

Plus they're very behind tech wise and they still look down upon Western works. Their xenophobia refuses to admit any merit in anything the West markets do and how far it has came... they're even still labelling it as "Western shit" in stores.

I played through a sim where you date disfigured by accidents (missing limbs, scars etc) school girls. Very disgusting.

Haha, reminds me, played through a Golden Axe ripoff called Queen's Ax lately. Funny and fun.

It's 1 and 5, and the intended finale of Final Fantasy Yoshitaka Amano and the pride and joy of series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi when it passed on the reigns to their protégées.

There's a lot of similarities and straight up nods to the three games, such as Garland and the four fiends from FF1 and SoulCage and Necron obviously a nod towards Exdeath and Necrophobe.
