Do you record videogames?, what is your prefered software from the above?

I've always used Fraps, never heard of Dxtory until now. I don't record my general play-throughs largely because whilst I'd like to I don't know how interesting a Let's Play video by me would actually be (my opinion: probably not interesting).

I do take numerous recordings of glitches, however.

Gonna try out this Dxtory.

Does it have less of a footprint than Fraps

I just saw a thread on /v/ with someone talking about how they couldn't get it to record over 13fps

Alternatives to Fraps in general would be nice.

It's not that I dislike Fraps, I just like to see alternatives.

I really wish i had the time and equipment to record my gaming, i'd love to be able to do commentaries and the like, even if they wern't popular, i'd stick them on Youtube anyway, just for the personal fun of it all.

I love watchin Let's Play's and commentaries on YT.

Never heard of Dxtory, although Fraps leaves an UNHOLY file at the end of recording.

I've heard Camtasia Studio is generally a lot better for footprint, but sucks for syncing sound.

Dxtory doesn't sacrifice playable FPS for recording.

If I could be bother / if my data cap didn't suck I'd honestly prefer to do live streams.

I enjoy the spontaneous nature of them.

[e] Hrm, default Dxtory recording codec doesn't seem to want to work for me. Recording seems fine but nothing happens during playback.

Also, the biggest issue you'll probably find with Dxtory is that whilst Fraps is a CPU whore, Dxtory has a lot of love for your HDD. So if your HDD sucks, like mine, then prepare for a shitfest.

Dxtory can leave fairly large files in it's wake. This improves that by quite a lot.

If you make many gameplay videos you can opt for a hardware solution. There're several PCIe cards for recording and even some special "boxes" with an inner CPU e HDD to connect between pc and screen in order to recorder everything without decreasing your pc performance.

What's the price range for these things?

I don't have one so I have no idea of the price for PC, I just saw an Avermedia card being mounted on a PC at job:

For xBox I've a Roxio Game Capture paid 69€ second hand on eBay
