Day Z, an ArmA 2 mod. Survival sandbox horror.
Welcome to Chernarus. A 225 km2 open world post-soviet state and one of the areas hit by a new and presently unknown infection which has wiped out most of the world's population.
You are one of the few who have survived and now you must search this new wasteland in order to fight for your life against what is left of the indigenous population, now
infected with the disease.
Go Solo, team up with friends or take on the world as you choose your path in this brutal and chilling landscape using whatever means you stumble upon to survive.
To run Dayz, you need any version of Arma 2 and the paid version of expansion Operation Arrowhead. You can get them separately, or bundled together as Arma 2: Combined Operations.

Yes Day Z, proper intense experience. Playing with a labour intern, eastern European and Italian Alex at the moment.

Definitely was thinking about hopping into that but I don't have ARMA II on Steam
What's it like?

Dangerous, bright and stealthy requirements against other players in the day time.
Intense, with pitch black hopelessness and a severe lack of resources at night hours.
I think I'd invite Jorkell to describe this one.

IT'S STALKER ONLINE WITH LESS MONSTERS AND MORE DICK ASS STALKERS (WHICH HAPPEN TO BE HUMAN)
Giving a lenghty response: it does survival right for the first time in a long while, AND it does it without any content at all.
It's you, the other players, and zombies, and not much else would really be needed.
While playing i said it was like a mix of Wurm online and Stalker. It takes the feeling of being lost in a hostile area with almost no resources from Wurm, but for obvious reasons you don't get all the grindy stuff and of course don't build anything complex, you just scavenge whatever can help you survive, food, weapons, first aid supplies (apparently car parts too but i don't know much about that).
What it takes from Stalker is just the atmosphere, since the map sets you in a generic mountain area in eastern europe, from what i could tell.
Hey, since it's supposed to be eastern europe, we're not actually on an island like i said earlier, are we?
Let me put emphasis on how much the game strips you of resources: when you spawn you only have a pistol with a few mags, a single portion of food and a single bottle of water, and bandages, and none of this is going to last much.
No other supplies, no watch, no compass, no map (you actually have to go get your map from internet, kind of like wurm). You get a broken leg and have no morphine (what helps with broken bones in the game's fiction)? You're dead, since you're not going to be able to walk.
You're alone and get wounded to the head rather than any other body part? You fall on the ground, semi unconscious, and can't actually bandage yourself, happened to us tonight.
And of course there's other players, who might just shoot you without any notice, even just to take your stuff.
This is what a stalker online should be like (since they actually plan to make a mmofps out of the series apparently), that's the best way to put it.

This looks incredibly interesting.
What is the objective exactly? Is it just to survive? Because what stops one from camping in, say, a barn?

Hunger, thirst, ammo.

There's a free version of the game,
http://www.arma2.com/free
Would that work? I guess it depends on if it needs the "Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead" expansion, thing.

Yes, you need the expansion. Their website says nothing about arrowhead though :/
Also, I feel sorry for this guy:

You only require a version of ArmA 2 (freeware edition good enough) and the
paid version of Operation Arrowhead.

Just logged on this morning in our super secret hiding place, found these two bodies.

One of the members of the mod development team is also apart of BI, and apparently Day Z works with ArmA 3 as well.

Yeah, I've read something to that effect too. I think they mentioned it being compatible in the future. I'm not so sure about the present though.
Glad Operation Arrowhead is a standalone expansion. So you only need to purchase OA, and nothing else.
Anyone know where to buy Arma CD keys with paypal?

So we should be set up for expansions as well.

Really? :O That's great news.
I'm still buying OA though. I'm kind of a bit confused on how it's set up. Say If I'm playing Arma 3... Would the only difference be that I have better graphical quality? Or are they two separate games with separate servers; because I have a feeling more people are playing on OA.
I'm buying a CD key off of CDkeyexpress as I type.
Edit: Bought cd key, not working with steam. Contacting guy..... They're customer service is friendly; but this is annoying.

Yeah, I'll just delete it, Lol.
Serial didn't work with torrented copy anyway, so i'm going to conform to steam.

Is it juggernaut-ish like ATDM?
How difficult is it to kill players, do they get stronger health-wise?
