About three hours since this post was created, the Tor server admin in Ireland has been arrested, and the tor network could possibly be shut down although I doubt the Federal Government will win the court case with almost nothing to go on other than the fact that they've caught someone (who doesn't know how to use Tor) attempting to perform illegal activity on the Tor network.

I can understand catching pedophiles, etc; but there are many other networks of people in oppressed regions that use Tor as a haven of free speech, and the FBI closing Tor as a whole would be a political mess, and a tragedy for populous looking for some sort of freedom.

There are plenty of "higher priorities", at least in my eyes, but according to numerous governments around the world the freedom of the internet is a crime that must be stopped!

Yeah man it's petty shit for the FBI to fly over to Ireland and arrest one man (who only administers Tor) on almost no evidence.

Thing about Tor is that it was designed in a unique way. There is no possible way to locate the server to witch specific Tor data is stored, not to mention that everything is encrypted, and then relayed across an approximate 30 computers around the world before it reaches you.

That article is a horrible example. Other than the title and the mention of the arrest in the first paragraph it doesn't even go into detail about anything: Did the guy own the porn or was he unwittingly hosting it via his Tor server? Hosting is not the same as owning, else YouTube and other similar sites should be shutdown (and god knows people have tried).

It spirals into an article about a potential Tor security breach, which is interesting but hardly any conclusive evidence on whether a man actually owned child porn or not.

He was charged for distribution. There are multiple (shitty) news articles, but that's basically what went down.
