I just got this game right after the Celtic Frost concert ..... damn! Fscking awesome so far, I'm on the second level ... thing ... I'm kinda confused as to controls and main menu, there's some off-tracks, as in:

I can't get out / get back to the main menu whilst in-game.
I can't walk whilst shooting.
I can't change views.
I can't move quick enough to turn and kill some villagers.
I can't change the difficulty.

Overall, the 3D is superb. The gameplay mode is just awesome, and Leon looks cool. Overall rating (so far):

9.6

It's called Survivor for a reason. The only Resident evil game that I know of that has walking while shooting is Outbreak File #2.

No, Blacktail ftw! Cus it looks so shexy ..

I'm at chapter 6 .... I think. I defeated El Gigante for the second time, and I killed the guy and got his eye and opened the door.

My brother bought Mercenaries: POD.

I've just come out of the sewers were you first encounter the Novistadors.

Broken Butterfly > Blacktail, easily.

Riot Gun > Broken Butterfly.

Besides, Blacktail is the shexiest gun evah!

It doesn't look different enough from the Standard Handgun or Punisher to be described as shexy.

The Broken Butterfly is my favourite wep' (It's more powerful than the Riot Gun : P) and the Mine Thrower is a close second.

Well, is it more powerful than:

THE RPG?!

HAHAHAH!

At the time to buy a Broken Butterfly, I had to sell a rifle and a shotgun. Damn merchant.

The Rocket Launcher is single-fire though! (unless you've completed the game and have 1,000,000 pesetas handy.)

The Broken Butterflys max firepower is the second highest on the game (50.0, Handcannon being the most powerful with 99.9)

Is that at max level though? Cus when I bought it, it didn't have that much.

I think it eats up the bullets too quick. Punisher isn't powerful. Pistol is bad at everything. The other one is rubbish at everything too but Red9 with an exclusive upgrade has the same power as a Shotgun which hasn't been upgraded.

that and the reload anim is awesome xD

My setup;

Red9 with Stock
Striker
Semi-auto Sniper Rifle with Scope/IRScope
Mine-Thrower with Scope
Broken Butterfly

Red9 is the most powerfullest pistol ever. However, you are forgetting:
  • It's the slowest in terms of reloading.
  • It's accuracy is just awful.
  • It's rate of fire is absolutely slow.
  • It's not really a good gun, not the best of the pistols in terms of availability, maybe in firepower.

Blacktail is the best pistol. Simply because it's the easiest to use, fast rate of fire, lot of capacity and fast reloading time. Punisher, btw, when fully upgraded, can bust a hole through five enemies at once. Not powerful? You must be insane.

My setup thus far:

Blacktail + Ammo (150)
Riot Gun + Ammo (9)
Mine Thrower + Scope + Ammo (4)
Semi-Auto Rifle + Scope + Ammo (5)
Fragmentation Grenade
Stun Grenade (2)
First Aid Spray (2)

I would use this setup most of the time

Red9
A Spare RocketLauncher
TMP
Herbs (Red,Green,Yellow)
Striker
Semi Rifle
and Broken Butterfly

All with exclusive upgrades

For me:

Blacktail (Just sold the pistol to clear up room, I had both pistols before that)
Mine Thrower
Riot Gun
Rocket Launcher ('til I face Verdugo it's staying with me)
Broken Butterfly
TMP
Semi-automatic Rifle

I'll be swapping the Riot Gun for a Striker when it becomes available, and I might sell the TMP.

Ok lets check the final stats for all pistols (bar matilda)

Handgun;

Firepower - 2.0
Rate of Fire - 0.33
Reload speed - 0.87
Capacity - 25

(Final level up gives headshot critical x 5)

Punisher;

Firepower - 1.9
Rate of Fire - 0.33
Reload speed - 0.83
Capacity - 28

(Normal gives penetration x 2, final gives penetration x 5)

Red9;

Firepower - 6.5
Rate of Fire - 0.40
Reload speed - 1.67
Capacity - 22

Blacktail;

Firepower - 3.4
Rate of Fire - 0.27
Reload speed - 0.83
Capacity - 35

Now heres a statement by a guy who made a RE4 Weapon analysis;

So, whatâ??s the best handgun to use in the game? Iâ??d say the Red9 mainly because
it has the most firepower out of all of the handguns, making it the most
efficient. Also, you might have to use a handgun against bosses, and the Red9
would definitely be the best in that type of situation. Also, the Red9 is the
most economically sound for the amount of damage it does. Its total cost per
firepower (TC/FP) is the least out of all of the handguns. The Red9 does have
two downsides though: it takes up a lot of inventory space (11 spaces total
with the stock), and it is German. Its consumption of space never affects my
game though, mainly because I donâ??t buy weapons like the TMP or the Mine
Thrower.

The second best gun would be the Blacktail. Overall, it isnâ??t that much more
expensive than the Red9, and it does pack a decent amount of firepower when
fully upgraded. It also consumes less inventory space. If you plan on buying
many items or weapons, then this would be a good gun to have in Leonâ??s case.
Also, youâ??ll notice that the firepower rate (FP/Sec) of the Blacktail is the
highest out of all of the handguns available during the first time playing
through. The total cost per firepower rate (TC/FPr) is also the lowest for the
Blacktail. Unfortunately, neither of these two stats really matter for
handguns. Unless youâ??re just showing off, you rarely want to take on a large
group of enemies with a handgun.

The Punisher is not a good handgun choice because itâ??s exclusive is not really
that useful. If you keep that gun, the only one youâ??re punishing is yourself.
Remember, attacking multiple targets is best suited for shotguns, rifles, and
grenades. The Matilda, although a great gun (and a great childrenâ??s book),
isnâ??t really needed once it becomes available. If you want a gun with rapid
fire, youâ??d be better of beating Assignment Ada and saving up for the Chicago
Typewriter.

The standard Handgun does give you a lot better chance of blowing off the heads
of enemies, but that doesnâ??t outweigh the Red9â??s firepower. In fact, just to
make sure, I did a little test. I played through a portion of Chapter 2-2 three
times. I used a fully-upgraded handgun the first time, a fully-upgraded Red9
the second time, and a fully-upgraded Blacktail the third time. With the
Handgun, I killed 16 villagers with 44 bullets total. With the Red9, I killed
them with 32 bullets, and with the Blacktail, I killed them with 37 bullets.
So, with the Handgun, it took me 2.75 bullets to kill each villager, but with
the Red9, it only took me 2.00 bullets to kill each villager. The Blacktail had
similar results (2.31 bullets per villager). This test directly shows the
correlation between firepower and bullet conservation, and it shows why the
Red9 is the best handgun choice.

For those of you playing through the game for your first time, you should use
my personal strategy for acquiring handguns. First, youâ??ll want to avoid
upgrading your basic Handgun. Once you shoot ten (or preferably all fifteen)
blue medallions, youâ??ll get the Punisher. You can either sell it or sell the
Handgun. Iâ??ll leave that to you, but do sell one of them. Once the Red9 becomes
available, sell whatever handgun you have, and buy the Red9 along with its
stock, and never look back. Focus on upgrading the Red9â??s firepower as often as
possible, and upgrade the capacity whenever you need bullets or have pesetas to
spare. If youâ??re doing well enough in the game, you might find that you donâ??t
even have to upgrade the Red9 all the way. At level 6, a firepower of 3.5 is
still better than any other handgun out there.

Now dont get me wrong peeps, the Blacktail, IS, a good handgun, but because of the situations you need to use handguns, the Red9 is the best thing for the job.

On some bosses (Mendez and Salazar), the handgun or TMP are vital for certain attacks you need to use against these bosses, as long as you have the stock for the Red9, everything is good!

Anyway, Im doing the "challenge" i put forward on the other topic... http://www.dxalpha.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6689

So far I have just entered the castle, and my loadout is as follows;

Leon - 60% total health (but 100% full - green)
Ashley - 50% total health (but 100% full - green)

65150 PTAS

No extra items/treasures

Village/Castle Treasure maps

Large Attache Case

Red9 - 10 ammo in clip
TMP - 100 ammo in clip
Semi-auto sniper - 10 ammo in clip
Shotgun - 9 ammo in clip
Red9 Stock
TMP Stock
Semi-auto Sniper Extra Scope
1 Grenade
2 Flame Grenades
2 Flash Grenades
35 Handgun ammo
92 TMP ammo
49 Shotgun ammo
40 Rifle ammo
1 Green herb
1 Green + red herb
1 Green + red + yellow herb

Granted it may have the most firepower, but that's just reversing the old saying of brains over brawn. The Blacktail should be your basic weapon, and the Red9 should be a choice if you want to take down enemies with more firepower. Otherwise, a tactical choice would be Blacktail; a powerful choice would be Red9.
