Question(s)!

A) Why doesn't download archive work?
B) Where can I get MTL auto installer apart from there? Thanks. :/

I can't answer your second question but I can your first.

The archive can be found here now - http://download.deusexnetwork.com/. Personally, I think that the links on the site need to be changed to inform people of the change and possibly make a redirection to it so that http://download.dxalpha.co.uk/ leads to it.

Ah thanks, need to update the Downloads page on the site, one sec.

EDIT: DAE, why can I only use TinyMCE text editor, I can't insert Hyperlinks with just that. :/

download.deusexnetwork.com
download.planetdeusex.ru
download.dxalpha.com
the only one that doesn't work is .co.uk, and I've no idea how to fix it yet

you can insert links with TinyMCE. Well, you can switch it off if you like like to write
Code: Select all
<a href="http://address">text</a>

Ah ok, it's just most of the links on the Site link to .co.uk so I'll go update them. xD

Bout time the site got updated. Nice one for letting us know tho :)

BTW - I see your site is a simple HTML affair - if you'd like any help at all I'd love to help (bored - give me something to do!)

Know I'm nothin to do with Alpha, like, but the offer's there. I actually enjoy proof reading, error checking and stuff.

Sad, eh.

What do you mean simple html?

Thanks for the offer! Can we meet in msn?

Thing is, we're going to do a major site update soon — it'll become an ultimate source for any Deus Ex related info, so SP editing, dx2, dx3 etc. I need a team of smart trustworthy people who would run it together with me. You're right in time! I was looking exactly for a proof-reader.

I'll PM you my MSN.

I mean simple HTML as in your site doesn't appear to use scripts. I'm not great with scripts (ie php, perl, python, cgi etc), unless they come with installers!

Our site uses powerful content management system MODx. It's "powerful" because the owner of the site is given a full control over the presentation (unlike Joomla, etc), so people don't notice that you use any scripts.

For the editors who don't know HTML, MODx also seems pretty intuitive to work with.

You don't need to know html, nor any other languages.

I'll contact you when there's something worth showing, so my words don't seem groundless.

Gonna check MODx out now. I'm only comfortable with Drupal and sNews at the mo. sNews is pretty customisable, but I've not had much luck designing templates for it.

EDIT: Ooh looks good. I like Ajax, less fucking page refreshes.

EDIT II: Gonna cobble together a quick site using MODx, will be done in an hour or so. Looks kinda useful to my other projects, actually. Nice one Dae!

Both Drupal and sNews are good systems.

Drupal has giant community and better access-permission system than MODx, but MODx seems easier for a newbie in all the CMS business + it has a better core (some would argue with that, but I'm no specialist in cores).

If you need help — don't hesitate to ask :)

I really like Drupal, but I find it a bit bloated sometimes. Drupal is great for a more team/community orientated site, it's overkill for just displaying simple, semi-static informational pages. Most of my sites are of this simple type.
I find sNews better for this purpose.

MODx seems okay so far.

MODx was annoying for me to use, I couldn't find out how to make new pages and it really frustrated the fuck out of me. I've tried Joomla! and didn't like it, I don't like many content management systems and the only "CMS" that I've ever used prominently and would recommend it to anyone is Wordpress.

Yeah, sure, it's blogging software but that doesn't mean it can't be a CMS. A damn good one at that, it's ease-of-use definitely is, for me, one of it's best functionalities. I only stopped using it because, at this current time, I haven't learnt how to code some of my layouts in Wordpress format and I don't intend to for sometime because I, personally, prefer to work with the raw HTML, it's just easier for me that way. Especially when working with my own designs lol.

As for this "new site", what are you guys adding to it? What else does there need to be and, what kind of help are you looking for exactly?

Wordpress is powerful. A bit oversimplified for my liking though. Joomla I find confusing, just tried it.

MODx = so far so good.

that's hell easy - right-click in doc tree, "new document" - voila, or just click on one of several links "new document" in the manager area

Wordpress is a good script, if you prefer it — use it. It has many advantages over MODx, especially in case of specific types of sites.

Exactly - section editors, who would treat their sections as diligently as they'd work with their own sites.

We need to write a lot of different content on different subjects, from "what is MJ12" to overviews of small items in games. Everyone can choose what they like - if one likes to analyze, alright - analyze, or if you want to write guides, make guides — just if you took the job, finish it.

We also need people who would check grammar/spelling, who would write news in time etc.

Sections include "News", "Deus Ex", "Deus Ex 2", "Deus Ex 3", "Multiplayer", "Editing" (assuming DX1 editing), "Modifications" (assuming DX1 SP mods), "Misc" (for articles like "what is mj12?", conspiracy theories etc), "Downloads", Alpha (archive of information about Alpha, it's not even in the main menu).

If one doesn't want to deal with MODx and the insides of the site, it's perfectly fine.

I wouldn't mind helping, dunno if I'd be any good at anything though, lol.

I'm willing to help out with the following:

-Guides (á la Kaiden lol)
-Proof-reading n shit
-news

Would also be interested in perhaps disucssing the ins and outs of the game, such as the music for example.

Am not willing to do any long articles about MJ12 etc, but I'm assuming people are already onto that.

Depends what information has to be said about MJ12. You'd want it descriptive but unbiased like Wikipedia has it. And you'd probably want spoiler warnings/tags for people who haven't actually completed the game.

I wouldn't find it too bad an idea for reviews. Reviews of pretty much anything to do with Deus Ex? Like singleplayer reviews, multiplayer reviews, mod reviews (or in some cases, previews, lol). The real problem is writing articles like that for a bloody near-ancient game. I'd so it, but because it's so old it's harder to than if I was going to writer articles for an RPG.

In fact, for me, it's so much easier to write articles for an RPG than an FPS. And I mean a "full-blooded" RPG, games with classes, races, skills, feats, etc etc. And the reason for that is because I can share my own ideas and generally know what I'm talking about. RPGs are non-linear like that and whilst Deus Ex is "non-linear" to an extent, you don't have character builds because you don't "build" your character really.

RPGs SUCK. Lol joking, not trying to incite a riot, but DX is the only game for me!
Err - just checked out Wikipedia... I never knew MJ12 stories existed outside of the game!!

Jeez.

http://www.totse.com ftw - loadsa conspiracies on there. And other shit.

Anyhoo.... long live dxalpha.com/co.uk!

I can help with anything modeling related, if you want.

Modeling key words, program recommendations, etc.

I also recommend you take a look at http://en.deusex.wikia.com/wiki/DeusEx_Wiki . Not a lot of info, but it helps.

You should also do analysis of characters and enemies. I can help with that.

I was thinking that you could add stuff of Deus Ex Wiki's. Hell, the Deus Ex Bible has some damn good information in it to. Just remember to cite references and shit like that, eh lol.

DeusEx Bible is good. Long, though. Interesting.

(hope the dx3 dev guys fkn read it!)
