I'm planning to update both the site and forum in a couple of months.

Initially we planned to stick with phpBB 3.0 (we even ported c3s theme on our own), but perhaps you want something different?

Basically every site I know has gone to vBulletin, would be nice to have atleast one left as PhpBB, don't really mind too much though.

Invision. They update frequently and every forum I go on is an Invision board.

I voted IPB, but I'd go for vB too as its just as good. Anything but PHPBB is a step up imo.

I voted for phpBB, as I will be (one of the) devs working on this forum, and seeing as phpBB is the only software I'm known with..

There's not much work needed on vB or IPB. On PDX we're happy with the vanilla IPB.

I remember there was something missing on phpBB3, but I don't remember what exactly

Spam bots prefer phpbb by far, even with all the mods they come up with. I prefer IPB, although vb does look nice Im still somewhat cautious about it. I cant stand the way phpBB works and it gets somewhat more user friendly only after heavy modifying, and its always such a joy to update heavily moded forums.
That said we're all used to this forum being phpbb and can manage just fine.

So yesterday we upgraded IPB to 3.1 on PlanetDeusEx.ru. It's a little better than 2.x.x in terms of usability, but still looks bloated with so many controls, buttons, links, dropdowns. It's a fully-fledged social network while we (on PlanetDeusEx.ru) need a stable, secure and easy to use discussion board.

Also there are only a few decent themes for it.

Right now I don't understand people's enthusiasm about IPB.

Honestly neither do I. Simple works best.

I'm with phpBB myself, because as far as I know, this place has always been phpBB.

Not a fan of simplicity.

http://planetrenders.net/forums/ for example, not "bloated" imo

I prefer VBulletin, it's pretty easy to use and most of the time it's clean. Also it has a very good system of warnings and members reputation.

For exemple this brazilian computer forum:

I'm still on the older version of IPB, haven't upgraded to 3.0 yet, reluctant due to the amount of mods I have installed clashing with the newer version.

TBH i'd rather phpBB just because of my past experience with it.
