Uploading Avatar

Hey, im having a problem with uploading pictures from my machine onto my avatar...it wont let me for some reason...altho i can guess from what it sez at the top....

Unless you store you avatars in the db, it is a file permission problem

So I just set the chmod number on that folder to 0775?

What does that mean? and it isn't that folder, the folder I can find with all the uploaded files in is called 'files' and its CHMOD properties are set to 755 not 775, should it be set to 775?

Ok, chmod changes the permissions on any given file/directory.

0775 is just the code that really means this:
~~~~~~~Read~~~Write~~~Execute
Owner~~~~X~~~~~X~~~~~~X~~
Group ~~~~X~~~~~X~~~~~~X~~
Others~~~~X~~~~~~~~~~~~X~~

In other words, the group and the ownder can write to it.
The code to allow anyone to write to it would be 0777, but thats a bad idea.

Also, your avatars are held in a different place to the files (although possibly in the files dir), if uploads work, simply give avatars the same permissions.

Ok, I found the avatars folder, the uploading files don't work on 755, or 775 so whats the point changing the avatars one? DK, got any ideas?

If that fixes the problem, then your web host has PHP running as a user it would seem...

You should talk to your web hoster and see if there is anyway to get them working besides using 0777, since it isn't 100% secure.
