Actual Active Members

It's come to my attention there's over 900 members on this Forum. 400 of those have NO posts whatsoever. Around 250 more members have less than 10 posts.
That's a total of 650 inactive members. Of course, there's ALOT more that. I'd say only 50-100 Members are actually active, whilst the others may have a high post count or have posted like 20 times and just stopped.
I was thinking, what's the point in having 900 Members who are inactive? I'd rather have a Total Member count of 100 members who are active than a Member count of 900 and like 800 of those are inactive.
Just a thought, maybe you should crack down on these as they're potentially leeching from [A] Forums. By wasting space/bandwidth by even joining. Recent members may post, but I've seen Members with no post count and they joined around 2003. That's 3 years ago, isn't that a bit too much?

Some old players come back for their accounts, and can you really see someone having the patience to remove over 650 accounts?

I didn't say remove exactly, and I've heard of someone deleting over 10,000 accounts so 650 vs. 10,000? 10K owns 650.

No, because if Jay says deleting accounts is a bad Idea, and Bullchicken is on this forum, then it is bad to delete accounts. Therefore, 650 > 10K.

Meh, I give up. If you're not going to bother reading the whole text of my post then don't bother replying.

I'll give you a dictionary definition to help you out:
To lie or wait in concealment, as a person in ambush; remain in or around a place secretly or furtively.

And these inactive members are lurkers are they? So tell me then, who the fuck waits in "concealment" for over 3 years? And how could that wait in concealment if I found them...

What's the problem with cleaning up the member list a bit?

It'd be nice, but as ~Cozmo~ said, it would be hard to delete 600+ accounts. Not necessarily ban those accounts, just delete them.
Or you could just purge all those with 0 post count and that'd automatically delete all of the accounts with 0 post count.
My real suggestion is to be a bit more strict on Forum Activeness. This Forum is one of best DX Communities out there and it's wasted because only a few people actually post.
You want to keep Deus Ex alive don't you? Well then I believe, you actually have to get in there and get a more-than active Forum going. Sure, 100 active members is good, but having at least 50% of your total Member Counts even better.

There are ways to mass delete users who fall under certain specifications, IE: A user who registered before *date* and has 0 posts.
But again, it's really not up to me and it doesn't affect me as a member of the board, it's just what I would do for mine.

Yes, it's called "pruning." You can do with posts and members. And it's not my decision either, I just think it'd make the Forum nicer.

"You want to keep Deus Ex alive don't you?"
If you prune, you killl BullChicken.
If you kill BullChicken, you kill life.
Therefore,
- Code: Select all
Please stfu, you have already given up remember, BullChicken owns you, not deleting a few members won't kill dx.

In theory deleting these ~200 users will make the forum work quicker, but in practice you will not notice any difference.
To increase speed and decrease the database size I might delete all the .ini's and .log's users copied as text into their messages.
Talking about these accounts. I know some people who registered just to browse forums from time to time, e.g. my Russian friends (Legus, ImDrunk, Flutter, hard.Gamer and many more) or aidivn, Duffman, Fireburn ([A]lex's friend). Some are history ("zeropaid customs", Kynazo, [Ai][Kingz]Bob).
However, yes, I will delete inactive accounts some day (registration requires e-mail confirmation for activation) and accounts without posts which weren't used for 2 years or more.
