FPS Problems..

Postby Kaiden » Tue Feb 13, 07 11:07 pm

Ok, over the past 1-2 months my FPS has been really low, like 13. I have no clue why this is. People say the average is anything from 13-100+. I find it increasingly difficult to kill people, as I am simply lagging all over the map.

Is there anyway to raise the FPS? Rather than buying a new graphics card which I need to do anyway.

My FPS never used to be that low ( I think ) or atleast I used to be able to kill people easier. It was about the time I joined [A] that it started getting really bad. At this time I also added OpenGL video card to my Deus Ex, perhaps that was the problem..

I'll try experimenting with them to see if they affect it. What are peoples average FPS stats here?

Wow, my FPS is on average about 70. Some places in my map make it drop to about 6 LOL.

Anyway, yes different renders will have an effect. Try getting the new OpenGL render from here and then set DX up to use it.

How do you check your FPS anyways please? It's been a long time since I was last on Deus Ex,

Thanks - Dan aka Survive :D

Type stat fps (In game so you know what it in when running around etc)

Is that not the one I have in my screenshot MainMan? The one that gives me 13 fps! :x

I don't think that's the improved version.

Ok, I'll try it. I was just playing around with them, and one updates it to 43 FPS, and I just won a game with it hehe.

If it's always 30 fps without change it's ok, but if it changes drastically every time you get into a fight then it's poor.

Type "preferences" in and mess around with the settings of OpenGL/D3D, that works for me. You can do it in the DeusEx.ini too...

Clix made me do some FPS stuffs, with making the weapons all blurry to improve FPS.

My max FPS is usually 60 without change, but into fights it turns 30 or 25

60 FPS constant for me. Never drops, never higher. Probably due to limitations of the engine that it only shows 60 but I could be wrong.

PC:

Dual Core 3.2 GHz Intel
2 GB's RAM
ATi Radeon X700 Pro AGP 8x
30 mbits download and 5 mbits upload internet...

I figure thats why it's usually always 60.

Ok, I just realized when I played in a server just now, its 30 fps CONSTANTLY, I'm lucky if it turns 60, but when I fight it goes as low as 19 or 20.

The human eye sees at approximately 29.96 Frames per second so 30 isn't that bad... Although 60 is more fluid and pretty much guarantees not too many tie ups, 30 isn't that bad... but if it hits 20 that's pretty bad...

There's a nice explanation about tickrate and all its related stuff, written by TSNe (clan viking, UT). The original location is lost, but I found a mirror here: http://www.utzone.de/include.php?path=content/articles.php&contentid=5668

This should explain all, also it shows its effects with nice screenshots.

On avarage i get around 5-7 fps. This is because my graphics card is old =/ So maybe your is too old?

If you're still having issues with your fps kaiden, I could try to help you out with the renderers once. As clyzm mentioned somewhere in this topic, there are several ways to increase your fps, but in return you'll get reduced quality. Apart from that, the newer D3D and OpenGL renderers seem to handle the game much better than the previous ones, so you'd end up with better fps, by only changing the renderer and not experiencing decreased quality.

Lol good thing I asked then.

Go to the video settings in the DeusEx menu and select something like change graphics device, and then select the one you want to use (OpenGL, or D3D8)

Weirdly enough I dont see the edited message on bottom, unlike at your post xD, guess I shouldn't trust the forums so much then.

Anyways, enough of that, if your fps just dropped to a lower amount and was higher at start you should check your comp for virusses and spyware, as it shouldnt just decrease like that.

Hmm odd.. in MP in small rooms, I'm lagging in another way.
The client wants to be faster than the server.. possibly due to the 600fps :?
Nobody is perfect...
