Deus Ex Speed Issue

For some odd reason, when I play DX on this computer, it goes really fast, then plays normal.. It keeps doing this and I can't figure out what it could be. I thought it was my graphics card, but that's not the problem, i'm thinking it's something with dx itself. Anyways, I was hoping maybe somebody would know what is doing this and maybe know how to fix it.

Well if it goes really fast, THEN plays normal, i reckon tis your processor... Certain processors i belive have a habit of running games in a certain way.... Can't explain in detail though lol

Enable Windows 98 compatibility mode for DeusEx.exe (right click on it -> Properties).

I do have exactly the same problem. It even goes that far that the server pushes me back in MP games. Unfortunately, your compatibility solution doesn't work here.

This issue's been described a lot on the internet. Ironically enough I think I had gotten the most info on it on the decrepit Redsun2020 message board. Apparently one common issue is caused by the dual core processors and if those are disabled the game runs fine. There were some other issues causing a speedup that were discussed I think but I cannot recall what they were.

well, my computer isn't running a dual core processor, to answer the question about the no cd patch: yes, I don't use the cd, but that shouldn't cause the problem. The processor my computer has is a: AMD Sempron 3200+ But it should be compatable, I'm going to attempt the compatability thing, and see what that does

I've only noticed speed ups with the new opengl renderer in single player, mp is normal.

There was a mod some where that made DX run on a single Proccessor, as it makes the game go.. Odd on a dual core computer. Ask Clix for help with it, cause I am not sure.

I apologize if you've already tried this but from the Eidos forums:
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=72033
This is usual because the computer you are using is well above the minimum requirements for this game. This game requires a video card with only DirectX 7.0a support, modern video cards translate the images at a higher rate then the card this game was intended for. There is a solution that may work though.
In the install directory, there should be a file called DeusEx.ini. Open this file and there will be a line that reads: GameSpeed=1.0000. Many users report if you change this value to: GameSpeed=0.5000, the game plays at normal speed. As this is video card dependant you may have to change this number to tweak the game speed to your liking.
If this does not work, we will have no further information, unless you have a system that mirrors the minimum or recommended requirements. We cannot help you run this in any other operating system other then 95/98.

I wouldn't change the game speed, well... lemme rephrase, I wouldnt do it until I've tried this:
Goto your deusex.ini file, and set a value for... ah, nevermidn that's only D3D8. Try D3D8, as I've been told by many people that the performance is mch better than in OpenGL.
Anyhoo - can't help ya with OpenGL, but in D3D8 (which you can get here) set the
FrameRateLimit=xxx
variable to whatever fps you like.
One thing, but only if you host: Your maxclientrate actually affects your max fps anyway, so if you have a high maxclientrate then don't set it too high.
I personally have mine limited to 40, as I'm running DX on what can only be called a beige shed with added led's!
...NOt that I ever get 40, though =/
Mind you, this may not even be a framerate issue.

The speed glitch was the infamous DX glitch for Macs. Now it is back, searching for more victims?

good link, but these solutions won't work:
1: Enabled Cheats (usually set DeusEx.JCDentonMale bCheatsEnabled True)
2: hit the talk button (type t) erase Say and type "slomo 1" without the quotes.
Game speed can be modified by editing the DeusEx.ini file (c:\deusex\system\DeusEx.ini)
Inside that file is a field literally called: GameSpeed=
CPUSpeed doesn't always help.

For once he's right. I recall our good friend Adultswim once abused this glitch to throw knives at an astonishing rate. Someone made a vid or a demorec or something to prove it.
