Ok, I am here to post about my miserable FPS in DEUS EX. Out of all games Deus Ex. It has only started being very bad recently. I will have 60 FPS without walking, 30 FPS walking and in middle of fights, it gets as low as 3!
Any help please, 3 is very abad
Thanks, Survive.

I had a full single player version of Counter-Strike 1.6 on my phone. FPS was 2.

That's all common sense stuff rly.
My FPS is the same as yours, Survive. I notice it the most with user maps, with the worst and most memorable one being a map called Duality2005. Had an FPS of maximum bout 6!!
This might sound crazy but try to limit ur fps in dx.ini! Limiting it to about 60 will at least give you SOME consistency. There's nothing worse than being in a rly small, undecorated room getting 100+ FPS, then sum fucker comes and pelts you with an assault rifle... coz you'll have to deal with an FPS of like 10 or less and that's fucked up when you just had an FPS which is rly high lol.
SWcuse me I'm drunk.
But yah - wats ur PC specs?? Bet they ain't as shite as mine!!

I have limited it to 60
I can't be bothered looking at the moment, but they probibaly are. Hopefully getting a laptop soon if I save up the money. Or maybe a new graphics card or computer... [ O'r Both ]

How, with an FPS of 3 - 40!

. My max FPS might be bigger, but my minimum!
But you do get a bit of bad FPS. Is i't possible to get 1000 FPS in Deus Ex?

Did you try OpenGL?

Oh aye - forgot bout that. OpenGL does indeed give better performance (altho I've heard it only rly gives better of Nvidia cards, but I'm probably mistaken).
I have an old Voodoo 3 2000 AGP card... DX was made for glide, right? Coz atm I'm using a Creative Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 420 PCI card with OpenGL... I was wondering if I'd get better performance on my 3DFX card.
BUT... then again, 3DFX cards don't have drivers for XP =(

deer B3S Survive,
Hint: Dont' limit your fps to 60, turn vsync or swap off...you'll fire faster...And, no the max is not 200 fps. I'm sure with the modern comps, you can get around 350. Heck I got 220 - 300

Yes but I bet you have a quad-core super deluxe £2,000 processor and everything else awesome. =D

I was speaking to someone in-game, I forget who, but he/she said they had a quad-core (dunno specs, just said quad core) and they were getting 220ish.
Not sure bout the vsync settings or the swap rate, but it's all explained here

I should improve that guide one day I guess... it's not really explaining every option, yet.
Anyways: People with bad computers are better off with using VSync: more stable fps (So you get used to that fps and don't end up helpless in big fights) and less low fps drops (still existant though, obviously)
People with good computers can play without vsync, though they could limit their fps at 130 without performanceloss if they want to decrease the stress on the graphics card (Most monitors support an update rate of 85, having fps way higher than that doesn't help you in any way.) Reason for not capping it at 85 (DesktopRefreshRate): The rendering won't always be at 85 fps, sometimes it'll be a bit above that amount, sometimes a bit below it: having it at 130 should ensure you of having it above 85 at all times (given your comp can handle that).

It'd be nice to see all the options explained. It's starting to bug me what they do lol.
I actually emailed the dude who makes the updated OpenGL renderers for DX, asking him about the options... but no reply yet
To use VSync do I set it to default (-1) or on (1)?

There's a lot of options he simply put there and you're not allowed to touch
"SwapInterval=-1 // Controls V Sync. If set to the default value of -1, the default buffer swapping method is used. Set to 0 to disable V Sync. Set to 1 to enable V Sync."
Simple answer: 1 (If that doesn't work your graphical driver's settings probably override the game settings, I could try helping you out with that, in that case.)

LOL CLIX DONT' DO IT!!! ONLY LEETERS K!? um, btw, no my comp is a POS, but I have the graphics on the absolute lowest

You shouldn't even complain if some here still have a comp which struggles to give 10 fps in some situations

Yey I downloaded the open driver or whatever you call it for Deus Ex, installed it. And now I get 40 - 60 FPS. But crap graphics
Thanks all who helped me.

Try upping the main gfx settings one by one, till it looks at least acceptable.
I should start a "please pity my computer" thread with some lovely screenshots of my game!!
Btw, what sorta performance boost would I get from setting "NoFiltering" to true?? Coz it's currently set to true, as I get sharper gfx, coz my LODBias is so high, everything is blurred at a distance, but with filtering off it's all sharp.
Tell ya what though, I played a map called DXMP_Medievil today, and set all gfx to highest, and detailmax to 2... WOW.
