Some idiot has managed to cock up my comp completely.
Some kind of problem with DirectX (8.0 in particular).

Now when I start DX (one of the few games that doesnt make my computer restart) I get a huuuuuuuge gpf. (look at DeusEx.log to see)

Can someone maybe tell me how to get around this plz :)

AND! Does anyone know how to reinstall DirectX without having to reinstall xp.

Edit: Tried installing that thing but still getting the same probs.

If I go to start > run > dxdiag > display > Test Direct3D it'll pass the DirectX 7.0 test and after I click "OK" for testing 8.0 my computer just just restarts. If I press cancel for 8.0 then itll pas 9.0, so it only ever crashes for 8.0.

(thanks anyway :()

I'm no specialist, but seems like your XP is totally fscked up.

Delete ServerHax.u and don't use it ever :?

Code: Select all
CacheSizeMegs=256

It's a useless variable and everything above 16-32 is just a waste of memory, that's at least what guys from Epic Games say.

I did some clean-up intuitively, please try it:

ServerActors=ServerHax.MasterServerHax

Can't you format the comp if the whole thing is playing up? Vista includes a backup feature that lets you backup to whenever you make changes like installing programmes, system updates etc. One of the few good things about it, if you have backups you can use them.

Windows System Restore.

Choose 'Help and Support' from the Start menu, then choose 'Restore my computer to an earlier date'.

Well formatting would make it work again, and buying a new comp would be just like formatting, you'd start with nothing still. :?
