StaticUpdateRate/DynamicUpdateRate/TickRate

Hi.

Just wondering really: What are the Static and Dynamic Update Rate settings in DeusEx.ini for? I've Googled the terms and they seem unique to DeusEx.

Would increasing/decreasing these affect performance? If so, how?

Also - Tick Rate. I know what tick rate is, but does anyone have any suggestions for good values?

GamingDeluxe sets all their DX servers up according to a configuration given to them by Ste, admin of God's Kitchen. Now, in the DX.ini file I currently have, the tick rates are set to 60 each, and the updaterate thingies are still 12/40.

As soon as I got the file I put the default settings back to the DXMTL defaults, but my server is averaging over 100 ping, whereas the RTK server which is hosted at exactly the same place is getting ping of about 60.

Any suggestions?

The configuration of ste's was conjured by a fair bit of testing by me and others, I'd advise keeping them at those rates.

Putting the rates lower would increase the delay again. (higher ping)

Putting them higher would theoretically lower one's ping, but when set above 60, weird stuff happens. One example is the sound: some people would end up not hearing some of the snipes and other sounds when the server has it set to a rate higher than 60. Another thing we experienced, but weren't 100% sure if it was because of the boosted rates, was that the server didnt register all hits properly.

Side note: If you are hosting your server at home, the recommended rate could well be lower: higher update rate means more traffic which increases serverload. Not all home PC's can handle that properly.

That's something completely different I think... I get it sometimes as well, but I got no idea at all what the cause could be though.

Well this has happened to me very often when I've played DX especially @ ATDM. Dunno what causes it though :?

Stick with the settings DXMTL changes them to. In the readme of it, it tells you that it changes it to make gameplay smoother.

Times change and so do computers. Back then it wasn't worth it having high tickrate as the comps couldnt handle it.

OKay thanks for your responses all.

Clix - I've set them back to 60, and it does indeed work better than 20.

I only have MTL/CRDM6/Nephthys on my installation, but still - much higher ping than RTK server.

Neeeevermind.

Had a long sesh tonight with a few mates and we all used teamspeak to take the piss outta [DECT] members =D
