DX in Ubuntu with wine and cheese = fail.

Help,

I installed DX and managed to load it in wine, on ubuntu. The mouse barely moved.

So then I installed ATI Catalyst 8.12 proprietary driver. The improvement on the desktop was great. So I clicked on DX, and the screen went bonkers, and extremely blurry and distorted.

I had to unplug the computer.

The system is a dual core with x1600 vid card. I cannot run DX.

:x

There aren't many Ubuntu/Wine specialists here unfortunately.

I'd say try changing the renderers of the game, e.g. set it to OpenGL (update to ehnanced OpenGL first).

Glad you fixed it.

Im a Ubuntu user and dx works nicely on it.

Directx on linux as you have found out just doesnt work. Since Microsoft are linux haters Directx hasn't been ported to linux.

There is an alternative being worked on, SDL ( Simple DirectMedia Layer), but if a game supports opengl and so does your videocard then opengl is the best choice.

Of course Microsoft are Linux haters, they're also Apple haters. They also hate Sony and Nintendo. These companies that Microsoft "dislike" are competition.

They only hate Nintendo because they have Mario, Zelda and every other classic game thus far. Microsoft just said FK you and made the Xbox and against the Wii(console gaming wise), it's winning.

N64 and SNES still Pwn both :D

I just wanted to add it there. Never hurts to have the latest drivers. Catalyst 8.12 drivers are old now.
