So ye, I downloaded Windows 7 because I was bored and then found out it's gonna expire in August, so I figure I gotta download XP or Vista again (since I can't find XP disk)
So anyway yeah, which one should I get? I heard Vista can be a nobber but all the XP torrents I try find are packed with viruses, according to the comments under them anyways.
So yeah, advice from someone cool plz

If you have a decent PC, you could go for Vista, otherwise, I'd go for XP.
I switched from XP to Vista a while ago, and I do like it. But if you decide to go for Vista: Wait a few days. Microsoft is releasing a 'fix' that will (according to them) disable a lot of pirated/illegal Vista's.
As for XP. I got a copy for you.

Wait a few days after they release a fix for Vista pirated versions. I hear the community is going to make a crack for it.

Well, not really. Microsoft is trying to get rid of all pirated versions of Vista. I don't know if a fix is created that easily by the way. Nor how long it will take.
What are your PC specs by the way?
And I just uploaded XP on a server, it's faster than torrents, comes with a serial etc. Just let me know if you want it.

Eh, okay thanks
I think I want Vista though, I heard XP couldn't take more than 4GB RAM? I ordered some RAM off this website the other day so by the end of next week I'll have 6GB.
I got dual core thingies, 2.8 each and GFX card is decent enough so ye.

Microsoft has been willing to release an "ultimate fix for all hax" since the initial release, with no luck.
They do cover some licensing system vulnerabilities from update to an update, but it seems that there are things they still can't get hold of. One of them is a low-level hack, that I and many of my friends use: it fakes some BIOS information, so my computer got "branded" as ASUS (could be HP, Samsung or any other company of your liking).
Vista now thinks I bought an ASUS computer with some sort of ASUS ultimate corporate license, so I get authorized on Microsoft sites and Windows Update regularly supplies me with the updates.
I've tried not less than 6 hacks with no success before I found the current working one. And specialists say that this one is the only reliable approach, because other just exploit bugs in the licensing system, making updates unavailable for you.

I currently use this special "Vista Developers" license, basically a serial code which is used by Vista developers. So far it has worked great; I wonder how much I will be affected by their 'fix'.
As for Vista/XP - RAM usage. Both Vista and XP can handle that amount of RAM (above 3.5GB) but only if they are 64bit.

So is there a website that I can look on to see if this fix has been made?
I mean so I can check it every week and see if it's been updated with it or whatevs.

Meh, my laptop had Windows Vista Home Basic on it before I installed Windows 7. Couldn't reinstall that again because my Recovery Partition is fucked (dunno why, but thank you HP for not giving me install disc! /sarcasm).
So I reinstalled Windows XP Pro with my cousins CD. Wanted to anyways simply because it runs better, for me at least, than Vista (except that my version has random lag when I try doing a few more tasks at once, and I could do such tasks in Vista/7 without a problem).
My only problem with XP is getting used to not having some of the cool features of Vista/7. I liked ReadyBoost, even if didn't make much difference I liked it simply because I had a flash drive to spare to use it. I also grew attached to the Aero effects of Windows 7.
Chances are, when 7 is released, I would want it. But I honestly don't believe Vista users should have to pay for a whole new Operating System that Microsoft have actually referred to as Vista's "Service Pack 2." All they did was add a few new features, remove a few, and slap a new taskbar onto it. And that warrants a new OS worth several hundred bucks?
And software developers wonder why people turn to piracy...

I have a HP Desktop. The idea is that you use HP's "Total Care Advisor" tool to create a backup of the OS Discs. ;0

I could never make them because it said I couldn't burn DVD's with my drive. Clearly some fucked up bug as I've done so on multiple occasions. And why should I have to make my own half-assed version of a Windows Vista install that isn't Windows Vista? It's a recovery CD.
Even if it's an OEM copy of an OS I still pay for the rights to use it, therefore I should get a CD to use the damn thing.

The irony: I got 4-5 legal licenses of Windows XP, yet I use an illegal Vista.
